New user and first trip nuvi 660

Well, after extensive research and shopping I recently purchased the nuvi 660 for a trip from Naples, Fl to Lancaster, Pa (driving Mother-in-Law's car back home). 1200 miles and 19 hours drive time. Since I got it only shortly before the trip, I had to learn it on the fly. Fairly easy to figure out though some functions and features required going back to the manual. Boy was I impressed for first use of a GPS system for trip planning. It saved me twice during the trip.
I started out with an audio book playing on my computer, radar detector set, cell phone and Garmin all hooked up and running. Well into the trip there was doorbell sound I was unfamiliar with and figured it was battery warning on one of the devices. Wrong. I was deep into the audio book when I finally realized I had not checked the gas in quite some time and looked down to see the gas light light was on. This was the doorbel sound and I was a good 15 minutes later realizing this was the warning. Frantically I did a quick search on the unit (I was in no man's land just north of Savannah) for a gas station. Found one three miles off the interstate on an exit that showed no hope of civilization anywhere nearby. Whew.
Second time was when I got to DC. I got boxed out by traffic and was heading the wrong way around DC. I made the mistake of getting off an exit that had no return to the loop and put me on the back streets of a neighborhood. "Emily" confidently redirected me back on my way with only a 20 minute time loss in getting around DC.
Great unit. Recommend the external mic for bluetooth use though. It really improves the sound.

Well now... People call me a gadget guy! Impressive.

Avoid the I-95 Corridor
I travel to Lancaster all the time (from Charlotte NC) to visit my kids. If you ever make the trip again, make sure you tell your nuvi to avoid I-95 through DC. Look into I-81 instead.
Thanks for the tip. I
Thanks for the tip. I usually do the I77 to 81 Route- better view and no "DC" to deal with. This trip I was looking for a quick trip up and wanted to avoid the the 81 corridor because there was supposed to be about 2 inches of rain on one of my travel days. Once I was heading up 95 out of Jacksonville it was just easier to stay on that track.
Couldn't believe how much snow was still on the ground and sounds like they had a bunch more up that way.
On a side note, I got to use the nuvi taking my son on spring break to playa del carmen below cancun. I now have a new "maximum speed" - 568 mph at 42,000 feet.

I did the same one day. Had the gps in my laptop bag. Accidentally turned it on during a trip from Chicago to Nashville on a regional jet. Now it's something I show all my buddies and everyone gets a laugh out of it. 454 mph max speed. Yee Ha!!
