Nuvi Speakers; Mono or Stereo?

Does anyone know if the Nuvi line has stereo or mono speakers?

My 360 has the holes in the case for the "look" of stereo speakers, but I only hear sound from one side.

You can test that

Here's how:

On the upper right of the main screen, where the clock and battery are displayed, place your finger on the time, and hold it for more than 5 seconds - you'll get a diagnostics screen - use the back/next buttons - hit next until you reach the Audio Test Page, and work with available choices to test your unit's abilities.

When you're done, power the unit down, and it power back up again - it will take a little longer than a typical power-up...so be patient.

You should have stereo audio - but might not notice the speaker separation because the unit is small.

I'm surprised that anyone

I'm surprised that anyone goes to the trouble of putting stereo speakers into teeny things like GPSes. I'd rather have the manufacturing costs spent on a better amp circuit and one good high quality speaker.

You Can Test That...

I will check that out and let you know.

Thanks

Thanks, Keith for the info.
Always thought it was producing MONO output from the back.
Did the status check and it is set for BOTH speakers.

Stereo setting, Mono sound

Well,

I did the test screen; the audio is set for stereo. I played the test sound and put the unit up to my ear. I only hear sound from the right side of the unit (as looking at back of unit). I then selected the left only and then right only. Both produced sound from the right side of the unit.

I more closely examined the unit. I noticed the "hole" pattern crossed the entire lower back half of the unit, but only the right side are actually holes. The left side is just dimples.

Perhaps Garmin has two speakers (stereo) on one side.

dunno

about the 360, but 660 only has one even though the 'holes' go all the way across the back

Stereo or Mono

Haven't tried it, but guessing the 'Dual' speaker setting is for external speakers or headphones via the headphone jack.
