Has anyone used the POI Loader BETA (version 2.4.0.0)?

If so, what were the results?

I took JM's advice, and bought a GPSMap 76CX, to use during hiking and kayaking. It's a powerful little gadget, and much harder to learn how to use than the Nuvi I have for street navigation. I just got it a few days ago, and haven't had a chance to use it in forests or on the water yet.

But, I'm wondering if anyone in this group has experience with Garmin's country-wide topos, which have a 1:100K scale. The reviews of it on Amazon are mixed. I'm not a heavy duty hiker, but would like to do some day hikes in various state and national forests and parks, and have an easier time following trails, etc.

I'm interested in learning more about embedding mp3 files and/or photo files into custom POIs for the Nuvi and Zumo. Anyone have info as to how this is accomplished?

Would adding an External antenna help my
reception a great deal. I have experienced signal
loss a few times but it's not common. This normally
happens when I'm in a big city with lots of tall
buildings. Since my C340 doesn't have a high gain
SiRF chip Antenna like the c500's and Nuvi's, would
adding an External antenna solve my problem?

Just curious if anyone has tried the Garmin Travel Guide?

I travel to a half-dozen various cities anually and typically stay for around 30 days each. Finding good local restaurants is always a challenge. By "Finding
good" I'm not just refering the the navigation piece. I'm referring to getting a good idea of which restaurants to choose.

Looking for Zumo 550 users to exchange ideas and information.

Conversely, in the c530, I understand it SHOULD read POIs from either internal or the SD card...

well my new c530 dutifully reads either and even asks on turn-on if you want the SD POIs to be moved to the internal memory, BUT, it seems to only allow TWO POI subcategories.... and sometimes allows only ONE, IE, when I upload astronomy csv then VOR then air-fields, only the last two categories show up in the selection list under Extras/custom POIs...

I will be visiting the store Monday (12/11) and will report back here on my findings. Supposed to have fully working displays of all their products. It will be very difficult getting out of there without buying a new toy!

I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 and recently purchased a Nuvi 360. Is it possible to copy all of the entries in My Locations-Favorites to my new Nuvi 360? Since I have quite an extensive list it will take quite some time to re-enter each favorite location separately. Can the entries be copied to my PC and then transfered to the new 360 or to the SD card and loaded onto the 360?

I just purchased myself an early Christmas present - the Garmin 2720. This is my third generation of GPS. I bought my first a long time ago, a Lowrance GM100. This was the first GPS which had downloadable moving maps. It was great and I used it a lot for several years.

Next, I upgraded to the Magellan Meridiam Gold. This one had a lot more memory, an SD card slot, easier on batteries, larger screen. And I used it a lot. In fact, I still use it a lot and plan to continue to do so for hiking.

Are there any other language guide's available that will work with the Nuvi other than the one that Garmin provides?

i seems like i dont have coverage in the tulsa area but im interested in peoples opinion on the Traffic Receiver
for the c530 or Traffic Receivers in general.

I have been trying to enter coordinates into my 660 without any success. The Owner's Manual leaves a little to be desired. I cannot get it to work as the Manual spells it out. Can someone tell me in simple terms what I am doing wrong? I can't get the decimal point to come up. It must be something simple that I can't see.

It is my understanding that the SD card should be formatted before use.
Question: 1. Do I put it in Nuvi,with Nuvi connected to the USB port, and format or,
2. Do I put it in Nuvi, not connected to the USB
port, and format it in Nuvi using the Format
button?
You guys are working with an old man here, so excuse the dumb questions please. Nuvi is working,

Is it better to download and update each time a new version comes out, even though nothing in the update pertains to you, or wait until a update version comes out that has updates that affect you? That is, 1 small download vs. one large download that may have 2 or 3 versions in it. I'm thinking it may not be good to push Nuvi with too much info. (download) at one time?

Well, I know I'm pretty full of questions, but I figured out how to sort of get a better answer to my dilemna of wanting a GPS unit that's portable, but suitable for both auto and marine navigation.

Finally waking up, I figured I could go to a Marine dealer web site and see what GPS units they are offering. One that West Marine offers is the Quest 2. This unit looks to be highly portable, much more affordable, and works for both auto and marine.

Based on my earlier comments, and my wish list, I may need to step back one level and consider this unit. I'm posting this here in case anyone has experience on one of these units. They aren't too terribly expensive, but the thing that I truly like is that they have both Auto and Marine functions. That's what I've been looking for, rather than buying an expensive chart plotter for the boat and a separate GPS receiver for the car.

just wondering, i loaded more than 1 poi file to my gps Nuvi 360) but i can only see the latest one i loaded. can you load more than 1 file? if not, should i combine the 2 files together?

I have been searching for maps that I can load on the SD card in my unit with out spending several hundred dollars. There is a Garmin Mapsource CD for World Maps on EBAY that according to the Garmin compatibility chart, will work on the C550.

If I got one of these, would I be able to copy map sections, like for example the Pacific Coast of Mexico, and load that on the SD card? Then would the

I just purchased a Garmin C320 and haven't taken it out the box yet (it is suppose to be a Christmas gift to myself but don't know if I can wait another 26 days).

Does anyone know if the Garmin's have a password option on it?
