Anyone try to use a conventional GPS for a golf course?

Has anyone considered or even tried to set up a Garmin for a golf course?

I used to use my eTrex

I used to use my eTrex Legend to mark courses, then to add in waypoints on the courses for my favorite areas to play. Haven't done that in a LOOOONNNGGG time.

come now thats as bad as

come now thats as bad as scuba diving and skydiving with a gps. but at least u wont have trouble getting the unit inside ur mask. lol

If you think about it, it's

If you think about it, it's actually not a bad deal. You can mark the greens then pull your trusty GPS unit out, and compare your altitude with that of the green. You just gotta remember that when you mark it you need to set the GPS on the ground. Gives you a good reference of the elevation change between where you're at and the green.

new golf game

Ok brace yourselves for another weird thought from Miss Poi

A new sport for the world of GPS users, combining golf and GPS stuff. Give the gps coordinates of the hole to the ball without actually stepping up to the hole to get them. You would have to stand a few feet away from the hole and take your best guess at the latitude and longitude of the hole?

The ball would automatically go where ever your imputed coordinates told it too. How long would it take you to get good at guessing the right spot?

I know that the technology is probably not that hard to acquire, it is just making it happen that is all that is standing in the way of this new sport.

Miss POI

Actually, if the spouse was

Actually, if the spouse was involved I'm sure the ball would go wherever she told it to go. Balls have been known to have a mind of their own, unless they have "parental supervision"... wait, what were we talking about???

extra points

another thought, you would get extra points for the creative path that the ball takes to get to the hole. Would you be able to make a figure 8 path? You could bring special music and perform a ballet of sorts to entertain the crowd. Ball bouncing would not be allowed though, too much risk having it accidentally fall into the hole.

Ahhhh... I'm picturing me,

Ahhhh... I'm picturing me, all 6'2", 275 pounds of pure-D manlove, stuffed into a pink tutu, dancing around a golf course.... do they make pink golf shoes???

eeeeuuuuuwwwwww... now I'm nauseated....lol....

intelli golf

I heard someone download intelli golf software and used it with mio C310x and it worked.

golf and garmin 360

tried this last week with my 360 (which I love).

accuracy to the pin was stated as .2 miles ... or down to .1 miles on my second shot (which was amazingly still in the fairway).

not good enough to really be helpful.

wondering if any one has any experience with Sky Caddy and the like?

Golf hole waypoints

I have done 15 courses in my area for my GPS62. I got the Golf course maps and hole locations from Google Earth and transferred them to the GPS. Works good. But it is a lengthy process. Would like somebody else to do some of the work to get more courses.

Garmin Approach

If you want to throw money at the issue, Garmin makes the Approach 8 for golfers which has the stats for 30,000 courses preloaded.
https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/golfing/approach...

The $399 price tag would cover a lot of green fees though.

I used this method for years with a Nuvi 260W.

Then I received a dedicated golf GPS. The method worked well but did require a little work before I got to each course the first time.
