Garmin talk

I use POI Loader to put the POIs on my 660 and it seems it generates one large file, which activated by checking Custom POIs. Is there any way to put the POIs on so that they are separate files, red light speed, stores, etc?. And if so could they then be checked on or off?

Help! How EXACTLY do I get this to work? There are no POI folders on my unit. Also how do I change cars? I have downloaded new car files but don't know where to put them on my GPS so it will read them and offer them as a choice.

I got this update when it came out this summer. I noticed many streets near me that had names with the old map now do not.

Do you know if there was ever a update to the 2008 map for the 330?

The reason I ask is that on the web site I just looked at the mapviewer for the update and the unnamed streets are now named. When I say unnamed I mean it only showes a number and no street name.

I have the Garmin C550.

When upload a larger CSV file, such as the Walgreens file or the Apple Computer Store file, and then I try to scroll through the list of locations on the Garmin unit, it won't go any further than about a dozen location listings or so. How come?

Yesterday I plugged in a Taco Bell near me and got fantastic directions to the site. One big problem, when I got to the Taco Bell my C340 showed me arriving there with the flag being right on the site. Now the problem - the mileage on the lower right side of the screen was showing me to go 1.1 more miles straight ahead. Weird! Has any one esle had this problem or is my unit going flakey?

I have been a member for about a half a year and I would like to thank everyone for all the information they have shared. I have learned so much about my GPS and POI's it's unbelievable. Special thanks to Miss POI and Jon, this is the best site for GPS information I have run into. I know how much work maintaining a site can be and you guys do an excellent job. To all the other members who contribute information and ideas another big thanks, because without your input this site would not be what it is. Everyone should be very proud to be a member.

So before I get off my soapbox. I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy new year and continued success at this site and in each and everyone's life.

I am a fairly new user of Automobile GPS devices and have come across a problem where the screen message says 'No detailed maps found that support routing. The Streetpilot cannot be used without them'. The last action I carried out prior to this message was to download V6 software as prompted by Garmin WebUpdater.

I know for the nuvi line that when you connect it to Windows, it'll show up as a USB storage device and you can modify the files within the internal memory of the nuvi.

Why are the POI's always listed as the "Crow flies"? Is there any way to change this? I need Natural Gas for my vehicle and it told me it was 3 miles away when it is actually 10 driving miles away.

Does anybody know of a crack to enable the bluetooth on these models.It looks as though all the pre software is already installed in it.I just got it for Christmas and i love it but it would be nice to know if my phone can connect as i'm usually on the road and i would rather keep an eye on one thing instead of several..Help a canadian guy out

For you nuvi 650 owners, I'm wondering if you could answer a question for me.

If you copy a GPX file directly to the unit, will the unit read it (ie allow you to import it into your Favorites).

When are POI's (both internal and custom) supposed to show on a map? If I am simply navigating to a location I dod not see them on the map when within range. If I tap my Nuvi 200 screen the map changes somewhat and I then can see POI's . I don't understand what the difference is.

I have a nuvi 650 for a few weesks, the small problem is the voice on TTS is stuttering. Thought because of firmware. Check to see it is 4.20. Any ideals

i have a really dump question. currently my c330 software version is 4.40. I was searching online through garmins website and there is a version 5.7 out there right now. Im using garmins webupdater. and it says that my unit is up to date but im seeing a version 5.7 on the garmin website.

This was the first time I've used my 660 in an airliner and I noticed that when I had it in off road mode for "as the crow flies" navigation, the magenta "vector" didn't do what I expected. Normally, with the ground and aviation GPSrs I've used, the "tail" of the vector remains "rubber banded" to the vehicle (i.e. aircraft) when a "direct to" type waypoint (destination) is selected.

I have a Garmin C530 GPSr. Today I set up a trip that's a little over 2000 miles (Cleveland, Ohio area to Tucson, Arizona area). It calculated the trip just fine (as far as I know) but the Arrival display in the bottom left hand corner didn't display the estimated time of arrival.
If I define a trip from Ohio to Florida (1245 miles, but in the same time zone), the ETA does display.

at one point i am asked for the pc's directory in POI setup
i have't a clue
can anyone help me to find the directory in my dell desktop ?

Newbie needs help

Just posting to say thanks for all the information received thus far. I got a Nuvi 370 for Christmas (I wanted the European maps) and I've been customizing it since then. Of course, since I've been felled by the flu, I haven't actually driven anywhere, but that will come soon. In the meantime, I'm still looking for cooler vehicle icons and can't believe I don't have a lot of MP3s.

I just want to post my appreciation of everyone here in the Garmin Talk forum.

As a brand new GPS owner and user, the documentation that came with my Nüvi 260 was woefully inadequate. This site has gotten me started on the right path, shown me many undocumented features, and guided me through the use of the POI Loader.
