Mispronouncing "Dr" as "Doctor" instead of "Drive"

Perhaps this is a well-known glitch, but it turns out a frequently-used thoroughfare near me is always pronounced as "Beach Doctor" instead of "Beach Drive." Haven't tried it with every possible voice, but it must be a glitch in the Navteq database, n'est ce pas?

The best explanation that i

The best explanation that i have seen is that dr.(period) and dr (no period) are pronounced two different ways. One is doctor and the other is drive.

If you look at the name on the map, I believe you will find it is the abbreviation for doctor.

There have been many examples of this mistake brought up in posts. Do a search for "doctor" if you want to see a lot of discussion.

Dr Beach...

I got the "Beach Doctor" on Beach Drive too. I think it's kind of funny.

Even funnier was when I loaded Grandma and Grandpa's address into favorites and called it what the kids call them, "Nana and Pa". When we got there my Nuvi announced "Arriving at Nana and Pennsylvania". It was a good laugh after 5 hours of driving.

Here in the South...

an easy workaround would be to change Pa to Paw. That's pretty much the way it's pronounced around here, anyway. smile

"Recalculating... drive 0.2 miles, then abandon vehicle." ------------- [ETrex Venture CX; Nüvi 40; Drive 52]

Just change your language

You are going to lose the accent but if you just change your language back to American it will "fix" it.

So now it will say "drive" but if you have a street like we do here called Dr Martin Luther King ...well smile
