c530 tts mod ramifications

Understanding that I need to download from 6 to 5.4 software to do the tts mod, does anyone know of any important losses in the downgrade?
The two things I notcied were that it might not save to stay off unpaved roads and that it could lose destination point on long routes. (info. from Garming update info.)
Anyone know anything about this?
Read some old forums and didn't see anything I was worried about.

No - I never upgraded beyond V5.4. It didn't seem like much of an upgrade, if the TTS stopped working smile

BTW - Software downgrades cause fairly major system resets on the C5xx - don't be surprised if it commands you to "go find a clear view of the sky"...just like when you first fired it up.

Also - make sure that GMAPPROM.UNL is present and correct (containing your 25 digit map unlock code).

Thank u sir. That is

Thank u sir. That is information I can really use. I'm not that convicted on doing the mod. Do you think it's worth taking a chance on major system effects? Appreciate your expertice.

yer pays yer money and takes yer chance!

The bottom line is - if you break it, you've got to fix it! -- only you can decide if it's a worthwhile 'risk'.

Personally, I've learnt an awful lot of stuff over the years -- digging myself out of messes of my own creation smile

Yeah, like Hornby, I didn't

Yeah, like Hornby, I didn't downgrade, just didn't go above the 5.40. however, I didn't have any problem with the tts mode.

Thanks guys, this sight is so helpfull. If I can bother u for one more question. Did either of you have problems with it staying on the "stay off unpaved roads" or losing "final destination point" in verision 5.4. (understanding that u both haven't gone to the next version)- that is just 2 of the things I noticed Garmin listed as issues addressed in the following updates to 6.0. (if I remember correctly)

The "Unpaved Roads" feature probably still works - it's just that it doesn't retain the setting from one boot to the next - not a problem where I live; you have to try very hard to find an unpaved road anyway!.
The 'losing destination' possibly only applies under certain circumstance - long, complicated routes maybe? I've never experienced it.
