Hi! Guys.
Can any one explain me how Routes work on the Garmin?
I create a route using MapSource, and I tranfer the data to the Garmin. But, I can't make it work.
Help please?

This is my first post here. Hey all!! This seems to be a very active board, so hopefully I will be able to find some help.

I went to register my new nuvi 760 online today so I could download the new maps. When I typed in the serial number on the bottom of the unit, the page said:

The serial number you have entered has already been registered.

I am a newbie so please be gentle.
I have many GDB & GPX files that have useful info. How do I create a POI file from them?

Why did the back ground of my maps page turn black after I downloaded some POI's? And how do I change it back? Thanks

I just picked up my new 2008 Goldwing this after noon and it comes with a navigation system designed by Garmin. Does anyone know if you can remove the CF Memory Card and add Custom POI's? Garmin did a real nice job designing this navigation system for Honda and there are some diffident features built into it that could really be a benefit to some of Garmins own products.

Okay, I am a future owner of a Garmin Nuvi 260w. It is being shipped as I type. I really know nothing about GPS units so I have a lot to learn. My question is this. Do you have to enter a destination for the unit to function? Or, will it show the map of the area where you are all of the time without entering a destination?

I don't know whether I'm using version 2.5.1 or 2.5.2. I can't find any info when I go to Help, and there is no About menu selection.

I have a Nuvi 660 with a 4GB SD card. I used ITunes to create a playlist with approximately 1,200 songs. The Nuvi only seems to be able to display about 600 from the playlist. Is this the maximum number that can be displayed?

I've loaded some POI files and their associated BMP files from this site. Thank you all for worked on these things! I love them!

But I'm struggling a bit with their use. It is not just the POI's I've added from here, it is all of the icons that came with my Nuvi 660...

Has anyone used tracks and have an idea just how long it takes up 10000 pts are used up. How many miles does it take to = 10000 pts? or how long in time?

I am going on a Amtrak trip that will be at least 4600 miles. And I wonder just how long the track log will last before I have to save to the PC.

How do I load POI into my MapSource Topo 2008 map?

Does any one can tell me how to put icon on my garmin?
All my way points comes with a blue flag. I tried to change that but anything I had try fails.

When driving from San Jose to San Francisco there are two routes 101 and 280. I prefer 280, but I am always routed via 101, even when 280 is faster. Google also routes me via 101, its like 280 does not exist. Does anyone have simuler problems? Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

I am curious if anyone knows, when searching for a POI, and when one selects the option "along the current route," how far AWAY from the current route does the search go?

1 mile or less? two miles? 1/2 mile?

Also, when the list shows POIs, and gives the mileage to the POI, is that the miles along the current route, or is it a point to point mileage?

I deleted my gmapprom.img file from my garmin, wasnt sure if i needed it on there or not, but i did back it up on an sd card. The only problem is that I cant load the file (or any other files) from my sd card directly from my gps device and the gps wont connect to my computer for some reason, it gets stuck on an error screen saying : No detailed maps found that support routing.

Okay we went through this last summer with various people calling Garmin Tech support and trying to get free updates to the 2008 maps. Has anyone tried this with Garmin for the 2009 updates and what are they saying........
Looking to buy a new Garmin and was wondering when the ones with the 2009 Maps installed will hit the shelf.........

I'm new to the forum. Any ideas on the best way to firmly attach a Garmin C340 inside a rental car? The suction cup doesn't hold the windshield very well. I also bought a holder that is supposed to attach to the air-conditioning vents of the car. That doesn't work well either.

Are they any friction based holders for the Garmin C340.

I have installed the following POIs: Redlight, Speed, Hospitals, Rest Stop. Each is a national data set. I see them listed when I touch the Extra icon on the 260W, so I know they are on the device. Now, how/when does each POS do its thing?

First: if I am driving through a city that has hospitals do I have to do "something" to find either the closest or a particular hospital?

I have a Nuvi 350. I've seen many posts that advise doing a backup of all files and folders as a safety precaution. Just how do you do a "backup"? Do you mean copy and paste?

I recently uploaded a number of custom POI files on my NUVI 680 that got me to a POI file count of (29). These are arranged in several folders (see outline below). My problem is that only (20) of these files appear in the Custom POI's menu on the NUVI (those with asterisks). I've checked to make sure that the files are good and that they are actually in the sub-folders on the NUVI -they do.
