All Custom POI's Don't Appear

I recently uploaded a number of custom POI files on my NUVI 680 that got me to a POI file count of (29). These are arranged in several folders (see outline below). My problem is that only (20) of these files appear in the Custom POI's menu on the NUVI (those with asterisks). I've checked to make sure that the files are good and that they are actually in the sub-folders on the NUVI -they do.

Anyone know why only (20) appear on the NUVI screens? Is this some limitation where only (20) GPI files are available in the Custom POI pages, or a limitation to the number of Custom POI pages that are available? Also, the (20) that do appear are a mixture of newly loaded and older POI's - doesn't seem to be any correlation to the (20) most recently loaded.

Comments & suggestions appreciated. I know I can merge some of the files if necessary, but I'd prefer not to unless it's absolutely necessary. Thanks for any help...

256 Custom POI directories

256 Custom POI directories and 32 Custom POI files in a subdirectory are the only limits I know about. I have about 880,000 Custom POIs from 20 folders and many Custom POI files (too lazy to count them).

I think your problem is the entire POI list (meaning all old ones) are wiped out when you use POI Loader. So you need to have ALL your Custom POIs under the upload directory or subdirectory. POI Loader replaces all Custom POIs with the files in the upload directory.

One Idea

TJ,

Why don't you set your location to someplace in FL and see if that changes the folders which show up. Since the unit only shows the 50 closest POI's, I'm wondering whether it skips showing any folder/category for which there are no POI's that are due to show. I don't know whether they show a folder/category with nothing in it. For this to be the answer, it would also say that TourGuides take precedence over closer non-TourGuides.

I'm assuming the folders you show are on your computer, not on the Nuvi -- right?

I am having difficulty with the .gpx files. Are these the ones that are missing from the ones you are trying to upload. I have a nuvi 680 as well.

TJ, Try This....

TJ, I was having problems similar to yours. What I did was first use POI Loader to remove my current POI.GPI file, then I used it to install all my new custom POI's. Removal is an option in POI Loader after you Find your device.

I know that the instructions say installing new custom POI's will replace any existing ones, but until I removed my old POI.GPI file, I had some POI's missing and some that should no longer have been there. I can't explain why this worked, but it did. So anytime I am ready to upload my new custom POI's to my nuvi 780, I first remove my old POI file using POI Loader.

Maybe that will work for you....

Solved my problem after

Solved my problem after doing some research of other postings.

I had been creating my own sub-directories on the Nuvi (you can do this since the Nuvi looks just like any other drive to your pc).

I solved my problem by creating a Master Poi folder on my pc, and creating sub-folders to group the GPX files that I wanted to load. Then using POI Loader I directed it to the Master Poi folder. The loader then creates one poi.gpi file on the Nuvi that includes all of the subfolders and the GPX files that were included in each folder.

Only problem is that I cannot create a sub-folder that only included Tourguides. Tourguides include their own sub-folders for MP3s and pics and POI Loader will not correctly recognize/read these sub-sub-sub-folders when loading the Nuvi. Although I'd like to have all the Tourguides in one folder/page on the Nuvi I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

Relative filespecs?

Is this because you've used 'relative' file specs. instead of absolute ones, to refer your TourGuide folders?
(ie

<link>my folder\, rather than
<link>C:\My POI folder\My Tourguide\my folder\

so that POILoader is looking in the wrong place, when you point it 'higher-up' the directory tree).

(Hard to describe this - I need to draw a picture smile )

Loading Tourguides in sub-folder

Tried loading with the following directories and POI Loader would not load the Tourguide files correctly:

C://GPS files/MY POI/Tourguides/Mulholland_Dr_Tourguide/

where the Mulholland_Dr_Tourguide folder contains the file Mulholland_Dr_Touguide.GPX and a DATA subfolder

I also had other sub-folders within the Touguides folder with DATA subfolders also (Palm Beach Tourguide, CA Wine Tour, etc)

What did it load?

You say PoiLoader did not load these files correctly. Just what did it load?

I'am not sure if what you have typed is a TYPO or accurate, but the word TourGuide has to be spelled right and it is also CASE SENSITIVE.
So it has to be "TourGuide" in the name.

This may be your problem.

Loading TourGuide files

The TourGuide files were not recognized as valid GPX files by POI Loader. I moved the TourGuide files to a "higher sub-directory and used GeePeeX to resave them (after double-checking that they were indexed to the proper Data folders for the MP3 and JPG files), and everything seems to be working correctly now.
