Why do some people keep posting to very old , even years old threads. Its a waste of peoples time .

So True

So True.

hello

hello

Agree

I know of threads that I land on, not this site, but when I open a thread it prompts me if the thread is more than 5 years old. We need something similar.

Old Post

I agree with you I thind after a two-year max posting the thread should be retired and a new one started

We have some with 20 and more pages.

…how big the server must be? POI Factory has been around since 2006.

Sometimes

For the most part, I agree about the wisdom of posting to these old threads. Sometimes however, it's helpful to see what has already been discussed on the subject before adding more appropriate information.

This of course depends on the subject.

Split On This

I feel yes, the thread should be retired and other times, it's good to look back and see for archive reasons what was talked about especially for older units. I believe other forums still keep the threads posted but you can no longer reply after a specific time frame.

Specific threads

I can understand the frustration. With changing technology, and limitations of being a small operation, we haven't landed on the best way to manage certain website issues.
If there's a specific one you would like closed you're welcome to email me and I'll look at it.

Welcome back

Lol, how long have you been back, 10 years and I just noticed? Time flies. I noticed I've been on the Factory , I think 20 or more years. Wow. Seems like just last year.

Because

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

I've been

I've been a member here for almost 18 1/2 years and shortly after I joined I sent an e-mail or posted about how, when you go to a thread on this site, it always opens to the first post, no matter how old the thread was. I got tricked into posting to some very old threads in my early days as I wasn't catching the fact that the thread was years old.

At the time I was a moderator on another GPS site, that like most other sites I belong to, open to the last post in a thread and NOT the first.

I suspect, like me, people are posting to very old threads because they don't realize the odd way threads are presented here.

Zombie threads

True, t9, and in some cases they're posting to zombie threads after taking the time to Search the site to see if a question has been discussed before before posting it again, which can be a good thing.

It's amusing to see the next person jump in and answer the first poster's question... that was asked 14 years ago and answered multiple times in the thread. Hint: the original poster is probably not waiting for an answer at this point.

A lot of people just don't notice the date of the thread, especially when it bubbles up on Active Forum Topics.

I had never noticed that before. On another forum I participate in, if you go to a topic that is several pages long, the original post appears at the top (of every page) but is slightly faint, and then the most recent post appears immediately below.

That is true, there are sites where the orginal post is always shown as you discribe. Thanks for bringing that up.

I have notice that when you post to the Chit Chat threads that sometimes it takes you to your post and other times it will return you to the top of page one.
