2009 Map Updates from Garmin!

Okay we went through this last summer with various people calling Garmin Tech support and trying to get free updates to the 2008 maps. Has anyone tried this with Garmin for the 2009 updates and what are they saying........
Looking to buy a new Garmin and was wondering when the ones with the 2009 Maps installed will hit the shelf.........

Just got a Nuvi 660 and it came with a free update of the 2009 Maps (via online download when you register)

Map Updates

I just purchased a 7200 and was able to get a free update online with no difficulty.

2009 update

For those who can't get an update for free - like me - Costco has it for $54.95 plus shipping. I ordered it on Saturday and it arrived today. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes to install.

2009 Map Updates from Garmin!

Find out if you're eligible by logging to your Garmin account (Map update than select the unit)!

I was (unit purchased in March 2008) but only up to July 2008 - so don't wait for too long smile

update

Having just updated my 760 to the 2009 maps, I would suggest getting the disc vs. downloading it. I eventually got it to work, but because of the disc space requirements I had to do some moving around to get it to work on a partitioned hard drive. By default it extracts to drive :C; I wrongly assumed it would extract to my D drive since that's where I downloaded it.

2009 Map updates from Garmin

Has anyone tried this with Garmin for the 2009 updates and what are they saying........

I bought a Nuvi 750 from Sam's Club at the end of March and registered it on April 3rd. A Garmin tech told me I would be eligible for a free update. I did not get the routine notificatiion in my Garmin Account. In June, After two E-mails to Garmin, the free update was made available for me. My impression was that there was some flexibility with Garmin's policy.

As for disk vs. download, I spent about three hours with the download. It did work but I would probably opt for the Disk next time.

Free Map Upgrade

I just received my Nuvii 750 on June 10th and registered. When I went through the registration process, it showed I could purchase the new map update. I sent an email to tech support and it took them a couple of days to respond. Here is the responce:
-----------
Thank you for contacting Garmin International. You are entitled to a free update. We had a glitch in our system that tells the system that the unit acquired and was used before March 1 2008. You will just need to contact us at 1-800-800-1020 between 8-7cst so that a technician can gather some information to get you a free mapping update.

I called tech support and at first it was kinda "what are you talking about?". Then "an oh let me check". It showed my unit aquired on Dec 27 '07. An email has to be sent to her supervisor and I should see it available for a free download by this Monday the 16th.

In my orginal email to support, I asked how I could tell without opening the box it had the new maps as I was going to take it back to the store and try to get one with new maps.

Update error Html 500 message

I just recieved my first ever GPS - Garmin C550 yesterday. After regestering it- I got a message to get free update within 30 days.

Here is the problem. I hit the download button, it started to download. After a few minutes it gave me a Html Error 500 message. When I retried it told me that record shows I already downloaded free update. Anyone else have this problem??

I emailed Garmin & will post their reply.

Nice site. I am new to GPS so this is all new to me. Thanks for all the great posts.

Nuvi 760 Update

My experience:

I purchased my unit in early June from Costco.com. The installed maps were the 2008 version. I contacted Garmin through their support link on the Garmin website asking what was needed to obtain the 2009 maps. I received a reply back a couple of days after submitting the query with instructions to reply with a copy of the receipt. I scanned the receipt and sent it in. "Amanda L" handled the email and had my account updated to permit download of the 2009 update within 24 hours. The download did indeed show up under my account. I promptly downloaded the file (it took a while), installed, and all was well!

A pleasant experience overall and I am satisfied.

my updating experience

I qualified for the free 2009 update on my Nuvi 200W and opted to download it. It only took about half an hour at 750kbps. I had to open up some free space on my hard drive to uncompress the file, then the installer told me I needed another 41 MB on the Nuvi!

In order to fit the update I deleted all of my jpegs, extra vehicles, and undeed language files from voices text and help. That left eneough room to upgrade and still have some space left to put back my jpegs, vehicles and still keep language files for English and Swedish.

There were extensive updates to Galveston Co, TX where I make my deliveries, including some quirky intersections and street names and recent construction, so it was well worth the effort.

I received mine and registered it. I updated the firmware to v3.0 and logged into my Garmin account and it said I was eligible for the 2009 update. I downloaded it in under an hour and installed it in about the same time. The process was smooth and straight forward with no involvement from Garmin.

Very pleased!

2009 Maps

I just got an e-mail from garman that the 2009 maps are avaiable. Think their people are a little slow in letting us know.
