How Do I Use GPS's POIs once they are installed on my Nuvi 260W

I have installed the following POIs: Redlight, Speed, Hospitals, Rest Stop. Each is a national data set. I see them listed when I touch the Extra icon on the 260W, so I know they are on the device. Now, how/when does each POS do its thing?

First: if I am driving through a city that has hospitals do I have to do "something" to find either the closest or a particular hospital?

Second: if the city has cameras and or speed traps, how do I get the alerts to work? Do I have to do anything?

Third: if I am on an interstate taking me to/from the city, how do I learn the location of the nearest rest stop and dsirecxtion for getting to it?

Many thanks for your help.

It all depends

The red-light and speed camera pois will give you a warning if you have your alerts turned on. I believe that is the default setting but you should check it at: tools, settings, proximity points, change.

edit; Assuming that you didn't set proximity alerts for rest stops and hospitals. Normally if you were looking for a rest stop, you would look in your custom pois at the rest stop poi and it will list the nearest ones, and that is the same with other pois that don't give alerts.

Last and most important, I'm not positive about the 2xx nuvis but on my 760, I push tools, then where am I, and the nearest hospital, police station, and gas station can be found by selecting the appropriate button. Your location is also listed...

1.For the hospitals and rest stops you will need to run poiloader in the manual mode to set up your alerts. You can also select your custom poi for hospitals under extras or custom pois and it will show you the closest 50 to you.

2.Your redlight and speed cameras will alert you at 1/4 mile you don't have to do anything with them because the word redlight and speed is in the file name see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6764

3.Just touch where to,my locations custom pois or extra.Select rest stop custom poi and touch go.

Could you give me an example

Could you give me an example that illustrates how I would use the Manual mode to set up an alert for finding a rest stop along a highway or road on whgich a am driving? Thanks

When you ran the poiloader

When you ran the poiloader most likely it was in the express mode. You have to go back and change from express to manual. It will go through each file asking you about the alerts. The ones you don't want alert for just don't put in any setting, just click next.Don't click ignore or that file will not be included. The rest stop for example I would just set it for the distance not speed. It goes by feet.5280 feet in a mile.So it is up to you how much alert you want.It sets the complete file so every poi will give you the alert when you are within that distance. Some cases if the coordinate are not within 50 ft of the road you will not get the alert.Read this thread and it will get into more detail about alerts and how to set them. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6764

My StreetPilot c550 shows that I have Custom POI under "Extras" but there are none listed.

POILoader says they were successfully added, but nothing shows up.

Did you tap the custom poi's...

They are not listed when you just tap extras, you also have to tap Custom Pois....
