Garmin talk

Garmin owners may discover two very large files--both in excess of 1GB--on their device: 'gmapprom.img', and 'gmapprom1.img'. The former is the primary mapset file.

What is the 'gmapprom1.img' file? I deleted it from my nuvi 270 without any obvious effect to operation.

On a slightly different topic...

For those that don't know INRIX is now Garmin's traffic provider for at least the lifetime subscription deal. Has anyone else noticed the difference?

I got my first MSN Weather Alert today when going home from work. Cloud with lightning bolts on the map screen.

When I tapped it, it showed 3 notices for Lake Effect Snow in Indiana and Michigan, all east of Lake Michigan. I was in western Chicago, heading west towards my home. These locations would be close to 100 miles BEHIND me.

I finally received my new free 260 today. It was free as part of the Discover card promotion. I fired it up and it has on it Where am I, the next turn indicated in the top left corner and the slide out with trip information on the “go” screen and a trip log. The GPS SW version is 2.38B, Software 3.10. The voices sound “tinny”.

Garmin has a new generation of Nuvi's - the model numbers end in 5 (755, 765, 775, 785) My question is if there is a way to get or purchase the software in them and put onto my 760 - those features are damn cool but im a little peeved that i purchased mine not even 7 months ago and already they have cooler software - the Nuvi body and insides are the same - its only the software and Id be happy to

Nuvi 760 - Custome POI's Loaded, But no alerts show up, Am i missing something?

So i loaded the POI's through the Garmin POI loader, installed great, can see them all under extra's.

For example, is the GPS meant to alert you there is a Starbucks comming up, if i have that POI file loaded?
If so, mine is not.

Thoughts?

I wonder if anyone here knows how to enable custom POI notification for Garmin XT? The same method for the Garmin PNA does not seem to work with XT.

Maybe this has been discussed somewhat but I wonder if Garmin should go another direction? Instead of combining a gps and a cell phone why not combine a gps, a radar detector, and a satellite radio?

The pros and cons of a combination unit being about equal, Garmin's future with a stand alone unit is questionable.

Suction cup mount for my C330 does not work anymore.
Should I reorder Garmin mount or there are some better products available?
I will appreciate your feed back.

I found 2 sources for batterys with leads.

this one looks like it will plug direct to circuit board on garmin unit and splice the wires to the speakers. it has a green wire.

Just upgraded my Kenwood KNA-G510 to City Navigator North America NT 2009 its great, maps more detailed than older verisons!

I know this is a TomTom, but I think this was the best board to put it on.

I was able to download poi file into my GPS,after downloading computer said, you have downloaded 33 files into gps, but I cannot see it on GPS.Please help

I know, I know, let's not stand up and applaud all at once.

My new Nuvi 265WT is re-mounting itself after I "safely remove" the Garmin on my Dell. It does the same thing after ejecting the Garmin from my Mac. My Nuvi 250W would stay off once removed/ejected. How come my new Nuvi 265WT remounts itself into Mass Storage Mode (screen with PC Tower on it)? It is a big pain to unplug the GPS USB cable during the 3 seconds it stays off in between mounts.

Garmin is advising me that a new map is available. Is their any way to disable their ad?

install Gramin c330 in computer says loader loading on gps screen but that is it. will not turn off or anything. help

y'day I was trying to start garmin 270 to get direction. But it will come upto loading map screen and quit. It happend 3 times. Then I charged it but same thing. I pluged in to auto charger. then it was stuck on loading map screen.
I then decided to remove the SD card and start it. Bingo battery was fully charged it was the sd card that was causing it. I later put SD card back and it was fine,

Ihave just made up a folder on my computer which contains subfolders some with bmp.csv.and mp3. files,others with just bmp.and csv.Now when tracking to poi in demo mode the ones with no mp3. file show icon at destination,ones with mp3.
