What is the 'gmapprom1.img' file ..?

Garmin owners may discover two very large files--both in excess of 1GB--on their device: 'gmapprom.img', and 'gmapprom1.img'. The former is the primary mapset file.
What is the 'gmapprom1.img' file? I deleted it from my nuvi 270 without any obvious effect to operation.
On a slightly different topic...
I used the MapInstall utility to replace the default 1GB 'gmapprom.img' with 130k 'gmapprom.img' file I created with the "2009 Mapsource City Navigator" map customization software. Conceivably, the device efficiently accesses a smaller map file. My experience is that maps load significantly faster.

I couldn't find this file on my 765t. What model Garmin are you using? I do have the gmapprom.img file that's over 1 gig.

It sounds like the Gmapprom1.img is for the European maps. That would explain why I don't have them on my unit. Lothian must have an x7x series Garmin.
