MSN showing weather alert 100 miles behind me?

I got my first MSN Weather Alert today when going home from work. Cloud with lightning bolts on the map screen.
When I tapped it, it showed 3 notices for Lake Effect Snow in Indiana and Michigan, all east of Lake Michigan. I was in western Chicago, heading west towards my home. These locations would be close to 100 miles BEHIND me.
I guess I was expecting this to work like traffic alerts, where it alerts me to what is ahead of me on my route. Is this the way that MSN weather alerts work? Notices about weather warnings in your general area (like 100 mile radius) and not specifically in the direction that you are going?
I have noticed the same thing
It looks as though it's just picking up weather bulletins from whatever source they're using, and if it's in the coverage area you're going to get the warning. It's not the most useful implementation, but it's only a couple of screen taps to see whether the bulletin is relevant to where you are and where you're going.
Mine are usually blank...
at least yours click through to something!

After owning a 680 for almost a year, we got our first MSN Weather Alert yesterday in the Detroit area and again today in the Toronto area. There was a winter storm warning for both cities. And in both cases "info could not be found" was displayed when you touched the lightning bolt icon.
One thing that was peculiar was that the traffic alerts for Detroit could be displayed until we had almost reached Toronto. Perhaps the weather alerts you observed were similar?

MSN Traffic in Toronto

MSN traffic alerts have been working in Toronto for most of 2008.
What has changed recently is the availability of traffic flow information for most major roads in the GTA (and beyond).
Previously, only the Gardiner/Lakeshore had traffic flow information.
