Garmin talk

I am awaiting my new Nuvi 855 and have some questions. With the millions of POI's in the unit, how do I know which ones I should install. Do I have to navigate through them all or can I safely install what may be a duplicate and let the Nuvi recognize if it is or not. Will it tell me it's already installed?

Recently returned from a road trip from Dallas to Seattle and Nuvi 760 worked flawlessly. On my return I wanted to update POI's and the web updater noted several updates. I updated to North American Map version 2010.10 and software version 4.80.

I was in Edmonton today and was looking for a Tim Hortons coffee shop on my new kna-g510 and there was non found,I thought Timmies was more popular than that. Hopefully I will be able to put my custom pois in and then find coffee!

I went on a road trip with my new unit this morning. I find it works quite well,the only issue i found is the navigation voice is fairly quiet you have to listen closely to hear your direction prompt. There is a setting for the unit to make a chime, Before a voice prompt for a bit of an advance warning to listen up and to check the screen.

I just had a Kenwood ddx814 with a kna-g510 for navigation installed in my vehicle on friday.. How do i find out which version of firmware unit has? I am not able to get my custom pois that i have installed in my 760 to install in my g510 unit just says them over and over,I tried sd card and usb drive with the same results. It appears I am doing something wrong.

The rest area on I10 east bound. last rest area to phoenix, about 8 miles west of Tonopah. When I pass that location did not give me alert. Just wondering maybe its not on the file or the coordinate is way off. but all the rest areas between palm spring to phoenix east and west bound are fine.

Does anybody know how to change a garmin nuvi 660 from the north west area to the north east area? I updated my map and the gps did not give me the option to choose my location, it defaulted to the north west. It normally would not be a problem but I live in NJ and NJ is not in the north west map file. Go figure.

No, they haven't rejected me as a customer yet. The problem is:
when I try to load this particular *.csv file (Montgomery County MD) dated 4/9/2009 with the POI Loader 2.5.3.0 I get an error during the load. It terminates loading all POI's in the the file beyond the first one.

Question about SD cards:

Do SD Micro Cards (with adapter) work just as well as full size SD cards?

I have the choice to get either - but don't know if one is better (more stable?) than the other.

Any suggestions for brands to consider (or avoid) would be great help too.

Can anyone please tell me what nuvi devices support routes created with Mapsource? Is that info avalable on the Garmin page?

This list covers the nuvi line and other related downloads. Links may be changed by Garmin at any time. Also, links to certain new series may not yet be in the list. If I have missed a series or a unit within a series, please point it out and it will be added if available and I can locate it.

Anyone else seen this problem?

It started with my 265 randomly locking up and requiring a restart. Then it got so bad that the maps wouldn't load at all and hung at the loading maps screen.

I reloaded the maps and it was fine for about a day, then it just stopped showing any roads, it was as if the color for the roads turned white on the white background.

I'm tyring to figure out how to export my favorites on my Nuvi 660 and how my father can export his on the Nuvi 265wt.

I've read about mapsource in some posts and checked the Garmin site. But it looks like that software only works on a PC, not on a Mac, which we both use (most of the time).

I have a quick question:
I will be traveling to Mexico soon(prices are CHEAP now)
and was thinking about buying a Mexico map for my Nuvi 260w and putting it on an SD card. I have some questions that I hope someone knows the answer to:
1) are points of interest (gas, restaurants, hospitals) included in the City Navigator Mexico maps or is it just the map only?

One of the favorites I use the most often is the the last page. It is a major pain to scrow through page after page to get to it,especially while driving. Is there a way to re-organize the favorites so that the ones I use most often is of the first page?

Finally got around to adding a SRF file viewer to the
SRF Builder as requested.

Also moved the installation from VB to InstallShield so it should work better now.

One issue I have seen, is that a couple of the Garmin SRFs came in to the viewer kinda strange..... Let me know if you see it too...

I was on a road yesterday and punched in an address that was surprisingly off the same road I was on but in the opposite direction. Rather than instructing me to turn around or make a U turn my Nuvi navigated me in the direction I was originally in on to a high way then exit taking me back on the same road. I immediatemy checked if I had U Turns checked in the avoidance menu but it wasn't.

Can someone tell me where can I preview the new 2010 NT map update?

I have the 2009 maps installed on my nuvi 650 at the present time.

If I get the 2010 maps and then install that map on the SD card (4GB) along with all my mp3s and POIs, and then select the 2010 maps for use, will the GPS performance lag being as my unit is transferring mp3s, the map data, and the pois all at the same time?
