Just updating new Nuvi 855

Hi. I'm new here. I just received my Nuvi 855 today and updated and registered it. I am told that I have 60 days to receive my NuMaps update. It sounds like one just came out in April. Should I hold off till early July (just before my trip) or should I go ahead and update them now? Is there a chance of another update coming before July? I'd hate to use my only free update if there's another one coming. OOPS- I see the post on this Garmin site was April of '08. So when was the last update?

Now maybe I have it wrong here. I assume the updates come as you hook up to the PC. Are the updates sent via CD?
You can update maps online.
You can update maps online. Go to garmin.com, select Maps>Update Maps>connect GPSr to pc.
I would go ahead and update now.
You can also load Garmin WebUpdater. It will check to see if there are software updates.

Just updating new Nuvi 855
I got a nuvi 885t about six weeks ago from an on line store, although I am in downtown Chicago a lot and talk to the folks at the Garmin store (it's too expensive to buy big items there with the high county and city taxes). When I registered the nuvi, it offered the "latest" map upgrade. I took it. The down load was loooong even with a cable ISP. The guy at Garmin said that was the July map although it wasn't July. He sounds like he knows what he is talking about and he knows I already have a nuvi (so he isn't trying to sell me). So it's probably the latest until next year. The nuvi is doing great so far, so I'll probably pop for the "forever maps".

If your 60 day window takes you until early July, then I would recommend waiting to update the maps. Since the last update came out in April 2009, it seems likely that the next update will come out in July.
And if the update doesn't come out before you need to go on your trips, then you can always just get the April release. But once you get the April release, you won't be able to get the July release for free.
Having said that, with the "quarterly" updates, the changes will obviously be much fewer than they were with the annual updates. So, if you go with the April update, you likely won't be missing much, if anything.
Nuvi 855 update
Having just added a "855" to my collection I have opted for the CD update for $10 for the City Nav. North America NT 2010 map. The download time with my slow DSL was going to be 21+ hours.

You have 60 days from the day your GPS acquires satellites for the first time. This info is available when you login to myGarmin, under myProducts. Note that you're not eligible for a free map update if you register by phone.

The latest update as of today was released in April 2009. If I were you, I'd wait until 1 to 2 days before the free map update offer expires. If there's no new maps by then, go ahead get the April 09 map.

how do you like the 855? i hear there are problems with the 855 that the 7 series are better at.
