I'm struggling with Google Maps and sending to the Nuvi

I just learned that you could send an address you looked up with Google Maps or Map Quest to your Garmin Nuvi. However, I'm really struggling with something.

I understand if I look up 123 Main Street, Anytown USA, that I get a little blurb caption box and I can click "send" on that caption box and send it to my garmin. But what if I want to go to some point on a street. Say I have a Cemetery that my great, great grand father is buried in (this is actually true) but it doesn't show up on Google Map. I don't know the exact address, but I know pretty much where it is. I can't get google maps, or map quest for that matter, to let me just drop a pin on the map where I want.

I can right click (I'm using a Mac) and I get the option of Directions from here, to here, zoom in, zoom out, center map here. But that's it. Even if I'm logged into google maps under my google account, I create a new map, add a placemark (by right clicking) but send to GPS is not an option at that time. I wish I could post a screen shot so everyone could see what I'm talking about. I can even move the pin to the area of the map that I want, but all I can do is send via email or I'm out of luck.

Am I missing something? Shouldn't I be able to get the coordinates of any point on the google map (either by an address as it knows the streets or by the lat/long) so that I can send that to my GPS?

I'm looking for any ideas or suggestions.

Thanks,
John

Go to Google Maps directory at http://maps.google.com/gadgets/directory?synd=mpl&pid=mpl&ba... and add position finder.Sign into Google maps after adding it.Now go to the location on the map and click on it.You will see the coordinates.Take the coordinates and put them back in search for the address.Put Latitude,Longitude.Now search again.Click on the marker and it will allow you to send to gps.Edit on gps to add info.

Charlie. Nuvi 265 WT and Nuvi 2597 LMT. MapFactor Navigator - Offline Maps & GPS.

Safari

Don't use Firefox. Use Safari. I've not dropped a pin for a point but just for restaurants I see on Google and try to send to my Nuvi, Firefox never works for me but Safari does. Maybe give that at try. I'm on a Mac too.

PS If you want to take a screen shot Command Shift 4
Then click and drag the cursor, the box you draw will be the screen capture. Works better than a full screen shot. Saves to your desktop as a png. If you already knew this, sorry, not trying to insult.

Here's the procedure I use to send

items from Google maps to my 260. This includes specific points, like what I think you are wanting to do.

HOW TO SET UP GOOGLE MAPS WITH THE MAPPLETS AND SEND FAVORITE TO GARMIN USING COMMUNICATOR PLUGIN

This is quite easy.

* Go to http://maps.google.com
* Click on Tab 'My Maps' then 'Browse the directory'
* Find 'Position Finder' (first page) and click on 'Add it to Maps'
* Click on 'Back to Google Maps' (top left of page)

You will now find in your 'My Maps' area (on left) a category named 'Created by others' in which your mapplets will appear. Box check it and then proceed normally with a search, zooming in on your target in the satellite mode, then click your selected position. Your coordinates will appear in a Position Finder window.

* Copy latitude/longitude from Position Finder window (beginning with latitude number) and paste into Google Maps
* Place comma after latitude value
* Delete word "longitude:" (leaves just numeric latitude and longitude values seperated by a comma)
* Hit 'Search Maps'

[By copying those coordinates and pasting them back into the Google Maps 'Search' box and clicking 'Search Maps' you caused the program to re-identify the focus point to be WHERE YOU WANTED IT.]

You are now ready to send this location as a Favorite to your GPS using Communicator Plug-in.--

* Click the word "Send" on the 'Print/Send/Link' line near the top of the page.
* In the next window you will find, on the left side, 'GPS'. Click it.
* In the pull-down window under 'Brand', select 'Garmin' (do not choose Native American Drums.)
* Add name you want for Favorite in the 'Name' window.
* Now press the 'Send' button.

You will be transported to the Garmin WEB site where you will see a small map of your selection, a comment that your nüvi was found (remember you plugged it in previously.)

* Click 'Send to GPS'.

The new Favorite will be saved to your device, a confirmation note will be presented, and, via link, you can return to your Google Map to continue selecting additional Favorites if you desire.

Someone else may have an easier way but this works for me. Hope this helps.
