Garmin talk

I use my Nuvi 855, turn it off, and a day or two later switch it on. It states "Can't Unlock Maps" and "Maps Not Routable" or similar. Sure enough in Settings-->Map-->Map Info my North America Map, the same one I downloaded on the device from Garmin using my lifetime map subscription is not listed.

I switch the unit off and on a few times, same result.

I just loaded a bunch of custom POI files onto my micro SD card in the Nuvi 855, but want some very basic help on how to use them. For instance, with the file for Yellowstone Nat. Park, how would I use its many specific points versus what is built-in by Garmin? Can I somehow display all those custom points on the screen while travelling inside the Park?

I am looking for the instructions that will tell what file to delete after doing a map update, so i don't change my firmware.

I am considering a 2460LMT. One question I have regards traffic reporting. Is it an "in your face obstruction" as it was with my 1490T?

I am thinking about getting a new Garmin because someone told me there are some Garmin GPSs that can learn how I like to go to a destination and use that route instead of their default route.

What features (nuroute) of the new Garmin GPSs allow this?

Are their other new options for controlling the route to a destination?

On my last trip to Florida I downloaded the current Rest Area file along with the audio and bit map image. I then uploaded this file via the Garmin tool to my Nuvi 750 and requested a 5 mile alert notification. During the trip I only received the "ding" notification and no voice notification and never was the onscreen bit map shown. Any ideas as to why this may be happening?

With all the recent discussion of the 2012.20 maps and the JV files -- where does my 560LMT unit fit? This is a GPS meant for use in trucks. Is there a Nuvi "equivalent" or perhaps a "sibling" that the 560 is similar enough to?

My son wants to borrow my Garmin C340 for his trip to Hawaii. Will it work there, or should I say, are there maps of Hawaii on the C340?

There is a new version of Base Camp out. It fixed a problem I was having connecting my 76CSx to it. It still has the note "Base Camp does not work with Serial units."

There is a file D3060030A.JCV which can be downloaded from the following Garmin link. The file size is 752MB but seems to be working great on my 755t unit. No resolution problem or split screen. It might work on other units too.

I had a 1490 for 2 weeks until i realized that the new maps were too big for it. Back it went and I now own a 2460 which is a much better unit...except for the updates. My 1490 updated the software and maps with no problems.

I just got a flyer alert from Tigerdirect . ca . In it they are selling a refurbished 1490T for $99 CDN. Usually this means they are clearing out stock on soon to be discontinued items.

After I updated my 3790LMT to 2012.20, I lost about 95% of the "Lane Assist" view in my area. Did this happen to any of you as well? If so, does anyone have any comments or solutions? I called Garmin with this problem and I was told that it was due to them using their own data with this release as they are no longer using Navteq.

Was on my way to my son's graduation in Orlando last week and needed to stop at his girlfriends place of business to get our tickets. We get off the highway and the GPS takes us about a half mile past the entrance to the shopping center where she works through another intersection and has us do a U-turn in a very busy area just past the intersection.

I have read every thread and am still not understatnding why I cannot get any custom POI's to show on the map of my 3970T. Using POIloader I loaded 6 .CSV files. On the unit in the POI directory I have the GarminPOI.gpi, NJ Speed Traps.csv & NJ Speed Traps.bmp for the 24x24 Icon. This is repeated for the 5 others loaded.

Am I the only one having problems running BaseCamp in 64 bit, Windows 7?

I have it installed in 3 systems: the 2 32 bit systems work fine, the install on the 64 bit does not.

Tried it on other 2 64 bit systems with the same result: no go.

I was given a New Garmin 765T by my cousin that has never been updated. What is the best firmware # to install & stop at to take care of any problems.

Ok, I'm a wit's end over this "lack of space issue" ... and the inability to install a "full" map update ... or receive a "full" JCV junction view file.

I've gone round and round with Garmin customer service reps...who've been giving me a "round robin" of canned responses. I've even emailed Garmin executives (with no response.)
