Now that the announcement is out - a new thread isn't a necessarily a bad thing.

Agree.

Agree, just saying there may be details in the existing thread that may be missed if you only look here.

Just as i suspected, a new line of pnd's. I hope they are affordable.

It doesn't look like there

It doesn't look like there are enough new features for me to replace my 3790

goody

Now the one I really want should go down in price much faster, just checked and Amazon now has the 2460LMT a whooping $8 cheaper than yesterday.

Dropping faster than a rotten mango $258.15 it is getting closer to my target number.

I have placed orders from them before and are a reliable seller.

Specs

Will these have higher memory capacities or faster processors? I would love to see comparisons between the Garmin 2.0 and Garmin 3.0 features and performance.

Fingers crossed.

Lets hope so. I guess that leaves the 1490LMT out for the count.

Well, the 1490 was likely to be discontinued anyway. I wonder if this means all of Garmin's nüvi line will be discontinued except for these new units.

Canadians getting ripped (again)

Want a Canadian map? Pay $10 more.

Want Lifetime Maps Pay $30 more

Want Canada, US maps and lifetime updates? Pay $40 more.

Want lifetime maps on the 30 series? Too bad so sad. You can't have it.

My info from GPS City website if you want to check.

oldie but goodie

still like my old c330 and my custom poi's

User Reviews

Can't wait to see user reviews on the 3400 series. My 760 has been great but my MSN traffic expires in 2012 and I'd rather not purchase another cable for traffic. If these Nuvis offer accurate traffic in addition to their new features, I am willing to consider them.

Something I just noticed on

Something I just noticed on the site. The nüvi 40 and 50 have junction view, but unlike the more expensive models, the images are not photorealistic. They are full screen images however.

Does this mean that for 2012.30 Garmin's solution to the junction view problem they created in 2012.20 is to eliminate photoreal views to make the file smaller?

Unfortunately, based on Garmin's past actions, I see that as a possibility. But let's not get upset about something that hasn't even happened yet. On a different note though, I'm a little surprised that Garmin's cheaper nuvi 40 and 50 have junction view. The nuvi 40 is supposedly supposed to be available for about $110 (according to Garmin's website), meaning that on amazon, it'll probably be around $90. That's pretty cool considering that just about a year ago, the nuvi 200w was about that much, and it didn't have half the features that the nuvi 40 will have.

30 has JV too

I misread the site. Apparently the 30 is going to have junction view as well. That aside, switching back to non-photoreal junction views does seem like a step back, though a necessary one to support all the older units that have full screen junction view. The junction views seem to also be in keeping with the concept of "essential" that Garmin is going with.

Non-photoreal junction views are also going to be the only option for users with full screen junction view. Every unit in Garmin's 2012 lineup except for the 30, 40 and 50 has split-screen junction view.

P.S. I got my $30 worth from my 200W, and am getting my money's worth from the 1300LM. But it's sad to see that I can get a unit from the "advanced" line for close to the same amount as what my roommate spent on the 1300LM.

Looks like I'm still staying with my 750, as yet again, no models offer music playback capabilities.

I will keep my 765t.

I'll keep mine also.

it does what I want it to do, shows me how to get where I want to go! I suppose eventually the files will get so large, they won't fit on the older models any longer, oh well.

"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

I'll keep my 775t.

I'll keep my 775t. And I'll probably buy one or two more as future replacements.

We will never see their kind of full-powered functionality again.

The era of the GPS as a leading electronic device is over -- replaced by an app.

And I'm keeping my old 660 for this and other reasons. It does what I want it to do.

Garmin 3490LMT

Does anyone have any experience with the Garmin 3490LMT? How does it stack up to Garmin's existing models?

Let em roll I am keeping my 780

It is good they have new offerings, but I am satisfied with my 780 for now.

Nuvi 2595LMT

I just bought the 2595LMT and I can't say I'm totally happy with it so far. For some reason, I still prefer the Map graphics on my 1490T. I've tried all the Map Themes and it still looks ugly to me. I also don't like the split screen when the Junction View pops up. The 1490T seems to be much louder. The Voice Command is not that bad--maybe, 90% accurate. The Avoid Road feature feature is not what I expected or liked it to be. Also, unlike previous models, you can't tinker with the .system folder cause it doesn't exist--hidden deep somewhere maybe.

On the plus side, the internal memory is now 8Gb (7.31 net). The routing and searching seem to be a little faster, though at times not the one I would have preferred.

The 2460LMT would have been a better choice? Sometimes older is better! I don't know. I'll play with it some more and decide later whether to keep it or return it, or perhaps, exchange it.

Thanks for the review, This was the unit I would consider if I needed a replacement, but think it is certainly best to wait at this point for. How does the Avoid Road feature work or behave? I'd be curious to know.

Might Look At A Newer Model

I'm liking the 5inch screen models and now that Garmin is offering lifetime maps. Possible I might go shopping for a new Nuvi...even though the one I have still works just fine. Hmmmmmm...

OK.....so where the heck am I?

Maybe Not That Bad!

I may have spoken too soon. From where I live, I have 3 choices on how to get to the freeway. On a particular intersection, First, I could make a left and travel about 1/4 mile and take the onramp on right and merge with the freeway. Second, I could go straight and travel all the way for 2 1/2 miles and take the onramp on left and merge with the freeway, and third, make a right and travel about 200 feet and take the onramp on right and loop around in an almost cloverleaf-like fashion for about 1/2 mile to merge with the freeway. With my Nuvi 1490T and Dakota 20, no matter what I do, they almost always prefer the second route and sometimes the first route, and never the third route which I prefer since it's the nearest onramp and without stoplights.

When I used the "Custom Avoidances" and "Advanced Detours" of the Nuvi 2595LMT, finally I was able to use the preferred route I've always wanted! I think I have to play with this more to unleash all the features.

Btw, the Custom Avoidances feature gives you the option of picking a start and end points of a road or highway to avoid, and also avoid an area or section of the map I think.

Useful feature

I could this being useful, I was in Pittsburgh one day when they had two bridges that were closed. Of course, the GPS insisted on taking these bridges, and recalculating didn't help. Would be nice to tell it to avoid them.

Custom Avoidances

nats50 wrote:

I think Custom Avoidances is one of the most important features in a nuvi! In my area there is heavy traffic and many routes to choose from. If a road is closed because of an accident or construction, Custom Avoidances is absolutely necessary.

From the Garmin website -
The nuvi 800 series, 805 series, 5000, 2400 series, 2405 series, 2505 series, and 3400 series devices and the dezl series allow you to set up custom avoidances so that you can avoid specific areas and lengths of road. (It is not known if this statement is up-to-date.)

dobs108 smile

The new models look interesting but

I think I probably keep mine until it die before purchase anoher one since I have lifetime map update.

I have not used my 350 since

I have not used my 350 since I purchased my Mustang with the SYNC system. I just use my Evo4G with the SYNC and I am perfectly happy with the setup wink

when are they going to

when are they going to introduce gps units that project onto the windshields in full color?

2350lmt

costs $164, probably less as time goes on, what else would a person need in a portable gps (after the latest firmware update, it hasn't locked, knock on wood maybe they fixed it?)?

It's really going to be a tough sell imho to get people to a) upgrade a gps b) spend much more than $150 when doing so
