Yes. Done it all.

grin Yes. Done it all.

Back to basics

First, please make sure that you have the settings correct by following instructions in
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

Next, let's have you build a .wav file that we know will work just in case the one you have is corrupt in some fashion..

Create your own wav file by going to
http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php#top

In the Step 2 section, just overwrite what is in the block with your own desired alert. I used "This is the spot. You should stop here"

In Step 3, click on the "Speak" button (yes I know, that seems odd, but trust me) You will get a "File Download" dialog box. Click on the "Save" button. Navigate to the location of the POI file for which this .wav file applies. Give the .wav file a name that is exactly the same as the POI file except for the extension. If you do not remember the name of the POI file, just name it something and then at "Download Complete", take the option to "Open Folder" and then make the names the same.

Attach your GPS to your computer.

Start POILoader (which you have assured us has sox.exe in the Program Files\Garmin\POILoader folder) and browse POILoader to the folder which has your POI file (which we assume is a .csv) and the .wav file you just downloaded. Run POILoader in manual mode and give some distance like 1000 feet as the point at which you want the alert to sound. Let POILoader run and see that it created "x" POI locations.

Make sure Custom POI alerts are turned on.

Let us know what happens

crying Still doesn't work. But a neat website for 'recording' custom voices.

If I remember correctly, when I first got the unit (right after they came out) I contacted Garmin and they advised that the unit does not support .wav files.

I had just been wondering if there was some firmware/software update (3rd party, whatever) that would allow the unit to play the .wav files.

.

Do any of the folks who responded to the OP actually own a 3790?? For all you know Garmin has once again messed something up and wav files don't work with this model.

Are there any 3790 owners out there who have wav files working?

sox.exe

It should work. Make sure you have the unzipped sox.exe the one on the link above in the correct location. For XP go to my computer, local disk(c),program files, click on Garmin folder and then click on the poiloader folder. Paste copy of sox.exe. there. Now make sure your csv file and the wav file named the same except for the extensions. Example
Craker Barrel.csv
Cracker Barrel.wav

Make sure you have no double extensions. Note Garmin will not tell you about wav files working.

It works

I just got a 3970 LMT and test with wav files. It works.
