Bad upgrade?

Went to 2.70, tried to load latest set of POIs, failed. Tried to reload 2.61, same result. Time to remove and start over, I guess.

Yes there is i bug in

Yes there is i bug in PoiLoader 2.7.0 . When sending to Garmin device the extension get xxx.poi
The file is ok when changing the extension .poi to .gpi
I Gess there will be a PoiLoader update again soon.

There is yet another bug with the version.

In addition to:
If you run application and choose: "Garmin Device" you will get wrong file extension: xxxxx.poi
If you run application and choose: "Computer" you will get correct file extension: xxxxx.gpi

**It never asks if you want to overwrite the poi file that you are changing**. You can clear all poi's but that is not what I want.

I did successfully send to my memory card and got the proper poi name. Now I have to go in and manually delete the poi I am changing.

Don't they test this stuff???

Looks like they put out a test file first and see how many complaints they get. Then put a change out.

I sent them a email. Hoping to get answer on what they are doing.

Correction

I did successfully send to my memory card and got the proper poi name. Now I have to go in and manually delete the poi I am changing.

Don't they test this stuff???

**Correction: I got the proper name of my file BUT the extension was poi and not gpi**
I did not catch the extension being wrong. Sorry for the confusion.

I am glad I waited before

I am glad I waited before installing this upgrade. I wanted to hear from others on this site who were willing to "test" this as Garmin doesn't test there crap themselves.
I don't trust there software upgrades anymore.

Wait?

Maybe I should wait for bugs fixed.

Maybe,

but 2.7.0 worked fine for me. I ran it in manual mode, updated and tested all 4 of my .gpi files including alerts with custom .WAV and .BMP files on both of my nuvis. I am not sure what conditions cause the bugs, but so far I have not found any.

If you follow the link that chalesd45 gave earlier, you wil see that Garmin is aware of the problem ,and will release an update that fixes this.

I always Load The Files

I always load the POI files to an SD card and haven't noticed any problems.
Sorry if I caused any problems posting this update too soon.

Thanks

Thanks

@Jery

Did you check to see if the file you loaded even shows up on your nuvi? reason being is because when I saved to my memory card and then verified it my file name was correct (Rest areas combined) but the extension was .poi and not .gpi.

Poi loader saved and created and gave no error, but the file was mia on the nuvi. when I went to where to/extras/custom poi it was gone. Since it is a file by itself in a folder it was on my nuvi as rest areas combined.poi

POI Loader version 2.70 definately has issues!

I upgraded to version 2.7, and when I attempted to load new POI's to my Nuvi 2460, even though it said it installed with no errors, the old file was still there untouched by the POI loader. I started up my old 2.5 version, removed the old POI's and then installed the new POI's with no problem. It makes me wonder if the ones who say they are not having any problems are really getting their updated POI's to actually load.

Good to know, maybe I better

Good to know, maybe I better uninstall that version and reinstall the previous version, at least I know that one works perfect

That seems to be a common problem with Garmin software. I went through that sort of problem with Mapupdate a few weeks back.

2.7 wont work..on XP

Keep getting error making file when running poi loader. Have tried loading to sd card and error is always the same. Great ! Another Garmin snafu. Release products without adequate testing. Thanks Garmin

What error are you getting? The 2.7 version does work but with extension issues.

--
Nuvi 2460LMT.

Here's what the new (2.70) poi loader says...

Gets to about 3% and then displays when I try to load poi's to an sd card or the garmin... "There is an unexpected error during the creation of the custom poi file."
Never happened before until 2.7 was used.

As...

it did for me! Held my breath anyway...just in case...

--
"Backward, turn backward, oh time in your flight, make me a child again, just for tonight."

Probably a csv data error

Works fine with the 17,000+ POIs I load. All are gpx, so the major data bugs are gone.

Try your csv files one at a time until you find the buggy one.

Another indication that

Another indication that Garmin could care less about existing customers.

Wait, yes

Ill take my time to install 2.7 as I am no computer wizz..

The only issue with version

The only issue with version 2.7.0 is the naming of the extensions and the not removing the existing gpi file like 2.6.1 did.

I strongly suspect that there is some corruption in the csv files you are using.

Check

I'll have to check this tonight as I need to update my POIs for an upcomming trip. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the heads up everyone

Always great info here

I checked my poi files starting with letter A..

I pulled out each file starting with the letters A & B since assuming since it was stopping at 3%-4% it might be one of these files. I then added each file back in one by one until I found the bad file as suggested and seems the trouble is/was with a gpx file. One called "best barbeque". When it is not loaded all other poi's load onto sd card.
I re-downloaded the above file and all poi's problem disapeared. Thanks for the suggestion.

The new POI-Loader works

The new POI-Loader works much better than the old one!

Glad you got it straightened out.

Did you do anything to the corrupt file or just re download it?
