Garmin talk

After backing up my 3590 noticed the .system file missing. Has it been renamed? My 1490,2460 has it. Yes I have the check mark to show hidden files and they appear with everything else.

It has been my understanding that the Garmin Nuvi650 cannot show way-points (route). I have been experimenting with BaseCamp and was able to successfully upload a test way-point onto the Nuvi650.

I use Garmin Lifetime map updater with my Nuvi2460LMT.

I installed 2013.20 but my unit shows 2012.30 I checked the version by selecting Tools-Settings-mymaps. It tells my map is 2012.30 ALL. That means when I updated to 2012.40 it didn't update also.

Try as I might, I can't get imformation to import into Mapsourse with the 4th column.

Mind you, I am new at this, so I generally don't exactly know what I am doing it seems.

I take my .csv with information like this: -73.9873 40.72234 Katz's Deli "Phone: 555-1234"
and using various programs to convert it to a .gpx file, all that gets imported are 3 of the 4 columns.

I just found this great resource and loaded a custom POI file to my Garmin Nuvi 40 using the POI loader program. It seemed to load fine, and I can see the file in the Garmin. However, I can't seem to find the actual POIs when I look for them. Are they stored in a certain category (restaurants, entertainment, etc)? They are not under Favorites. How do I search for them on the GPS?

Reason I ask is I've noticed the past few days the "eco" button reads 0 and I don'[t get the trip or any of the fuel data after my trip.

So I'm hoping there might be a firmware update or something.

Soemone borrowed my Nuvi 765 and destroyed the mount and charging cradle. So bought new cradle and mount and it is working fine. Lession learnt not to lend it.
Secondly, I noticed yesterday when I first time used it thaat map view is zooming out big time. If i navigate to somewhere then map view is fine. Is there a way to fix the zoom issue?

I have a new Kenwood dnx6990hd with Garmin nav that I am still learning about. My last unit was a Garmin 255W that used the Cyclopes from Garmin for safety alerts. What files are needed to load safety cameras so it is setup like my old one ? I would like to have voice alerts but I do not know what format to use.

Just curious. I did the ol' GPS on a plane trip from Pittsburgh, PA to Orlando, FL using my zumo 665 in OFF ROAD mode. It shows the blue track line on the screen ... but ... there is no sign of it in the Trip Log looking on the zumo, or in the Current.GPX file using MapSource or BaseCamp. It must be somewhere in the zumo memory but it sure isn't sharing it with me.

I got a new 50LM with camera alerts built-in. Is this a 30-day trial that will just quit working? Or will it continue to work but just not update the data unless I pay for it?

Aside from the price, what would be the advantages/disadvantages of the Garmin camera alerts versus the POI Factory Camera file?

Here is my fix Just in case you get this message while using the voice command on the NUVI:

I spoke a voice command to find an INTERSECTION and my 3490 LMT responded with a message that "This feature is not available for the United States in American English".

Following the driving directions on my nuvi last weekend. Found this sign and turned around.

My Garmin 1490 routed me onto a 20 mile stretch of unpaved road even though I had "unpaved roads" checked as an avoidance. Any ideas why this would happen? The road had some paved sections but was mostly unpaved.

I'm trying to get the custom poi's in my connect 8.4n. I can get them in and have the proximity alerts to work but the don't show up. I been using epe and works great but I can't get the help file to work. I'm trying to figure out what the fields in 'recalculate fieds' are I.e display. I've tried using the values true, yes, and 800 (thinking it was a map scale to display at).

I'm in the market for a new nuvi. My 260W is on its last leg. Thought about buying a 3490LMT but the price hasn't dropped yet, and new models must be announced soon.

Any word on when the 2013 models will arrive? Past release dates were in early November. Wonder what new features they will offer. Any ideas?

A recent trend I've noticed, when I select a new route (one I haven't gone on before) that is programmed on my GPS. I find that when it starts to calculate the route the unit just reboots itself and I takes about 5 or 6 tries until it finally caculates the route. Any suggestions?
