that's funny

Thanks for sharing. OTOH, I've sometimes wondered if the locals get annoyed when my GPS takes me down a residential road as a "shortcut" when I could have stayed on the highway and made the turn onto the other highway a little further along. I mean, if my GPS sends me that way then other people's GPSs probably do it too, right?

.

Too funny. Makes you wonder exactly what people are going to believe. And I'll bet they still get out of the car and ask someone if it's a dead-end. rolleyes

Funny

Somebody was very annoyed. The sign must have been a special order.

Me too

This happens often to me when the 'shortcut' is parallel to the highway.

Great idea. I made it my wallpaper, too, and it's hilarious.

That should be sent to the people that make the maps for these units.

Tight lines

Now that's a great idea for a thread>

"Signs along the road that you would like to see." How about:

Ignore Jill: this is the way to get there! razz

Is it Really?

Or do the locals just want to keep strangers out of their neighborhood? shock surprised

Still, it is a great pic!

Pine Tree Lane in Roanoke VA is a private gravel street that is not a dead end. My niece says the people who live on that street are good natured even though GPS users are routed through their property enroute to her home.

Shortcut

[quote=David King

===========================================

I too have had that happen but concluded that it was because the GPS setting was for the shortest route.

One that drove me bonkers was a few years ago crossing the border at Laredo into Mexico. Taking the toll road south the GPS kept wanting me to take the next exit. I finally figured out my settings were to avoid toll roads. I HATE to pay tolls, but gladly pay them in Mexico.

then the sign should not be allowed to be there.

If it is indeed a private road then I believe the owner(s) can post whatever signs they desire.

Explain please

Assuming that the road is "private" as stated, on what basis do you make such a statement?

Sign

I love that sign, it made my day.

So is there really a dead end beyond that sign?

Good one!

Thanks for Sharing

Ha, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting

Ha, I needed that on my trip to Salt Lake City at 11:00 at night when I was trying to find a ramp to get on the highway.

I suppose, but . . .

The appropriate sign is:

"Private road, no trespassing."

Saying it is a dead end is incorrect. And it wouldn't stop me if I knew it wasn't.

Great Sign!!!

It looks like some places where my GPS has led me!!!

Like I tell

my wife sometime. You got the point, dead end, can't drive thru. Might be a shot-gun waiting for you at the other end.

I hope you stated that with tongue in cheek. Public roads that dead end normally are marked with either a diamond shaped sign that states DEAD END or NO OUTLET or they could be rectangular (W14-1, W14-2 or W14-1a, W14-2a).

The sign in the photograph is a private sign ordered and installed by an individual and is not in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. In fact, unless the sign is on private property, the local jurisdiction can order it removed as it does not comply with federal standards.

Not tongue in cheek. I read that he was saying that ANY dead end sign should not be there if it a public street.

My interpretation was that particular sign should not be there (because, as Box Car said, it's not regulation).

The road in question DID indeed have an "official" Not A Through Road sign. It was at the entrance to the road. This "unofficial" sign was placed further on where the road had a "T". If you continued down the road that had the official sign you hit this spot. This road had the funny sign. The road to the right on the T had another "official" sign.

I think the people on the road with the funny sign were just sick and tired of people ignoring the official signs.

NOTE: We saw the initial sign when we turned off of the main road but thought we would hit the geocache before the road ended. That turned out to not be the case or else it may be that someone placed a geocache near their home or something and it actually was down past the sign I posted. Either way, I didn't go any further. If the geocache was down that road it can stay there without me finding it.
