Garmin talk

I just purchased a Garmin Drive 51 and noticed the junction view file only to be about 118MB. This is after updating to the latest NA Navigator NT map (not sure what it was before). For Map it states the lower 49 states.

My Garmin Nuvi 50 lm is not showing certain towns in Missouri. both towns that I have tried are not listed in the alphabetical order of the cities and towns in Missouri. I have downloaded new maps through Garmin Express and even hard crashed my GPS with the same issues. Any suggestions on improving this issue.

Anyone know of a way to "revitalize" the silicone (I think that's what it is) bottom portion of a Garmin friction mount so it sticks to the dashboard better?

I do not know if any other built in GPS's use DB3 files, but here is a VW website in German where you can convert any GPX, CSV, ASC, KMZ or KML files into a DB3 file. In other words it lets you convert your own files into the DB3 format.

This a link to the "GPS DATA TEAM" website. From this site you can download POI's for the particular format your vehicles built in GPS requires. They permit non-members to download from their website.

My VW RNS-510 for example requires any POI's with a "filename.DB3" to install into the RNS-510.

I have looked at Garmin RINOs in the past, but I really could never justify getting them. Yesterday, however, my wife and I went ATVing with some friends of ours. My wife mentioned that it would be nice to be able to talk with one another while we are riding.

I posted a couple of years ago a situation where my Nuvi 850 was showing a speed limit of 2km/h in a couple of locations; also appeared on my 2597 and now on my DriveSmart 50. The thing is that now it appears in several other locations and it "seems" that with every new s/w update a new area appears - there are now approx 5 or 6 areas.

Available Storage Space

The DriveLuxe 50 arrived with 8GB of internal storage of which 7.02GB was usable and 1.37GB free.

After updating to map version 2018.20 and the system software to version 5.20, there was 799MB free, and reinstalling the Foursquare database file brought that down to 610MB.

My refurbished DriveLuxe arrived in a box that would leave little doubt that it was a refurb:

That being said the unit and all the supplied cables and connections were in perfect condition and if it wasn't for the box I wouldn't have been able to tell it from a completely new unit.

I received a refurbed DriveLuxe50LMTHD yesterday and among other things that are different between it and my Nuvi 3597 is the addition of a couple of new Trip Data Options which some may find helpful.

I am a longtime Garmin user, and off-roader. I've been quite happy with previously owned Nuv1 50 and Nuvi 52. I plan off road excursions with Garmin Basecamp, several topo maps and GE, of course. Since the unit cannot be trusted to navigate poorly known dirt roads, I create lots of waypoints in Basecamp, copy them to the Nuvi unit, and follow my waypoints like breadcrumbs. Works like a charm.

What Garmin model would be good for a Uber driver, but not be really expensive? It would be used mainly in the suburbs with limited use of freeways and toll roads, but would be used in gated community areas. It also would be used for restaurants, businesses and medical offices and hospitals.

I am curious. With my 2797 I have the ability to connect my cell phone to the GPS via Bluetooth for making and receiving calls.

How does the GPS connect to the airwaves? The GPS can not send a signal to a satellite, does it? As far as I understand the GPS has no transmit capability.

Husband and I are looking to buy the DriveSmart 61 LMT-S and I'm not sure I understand about the smartphone issue. Is it that the 'S' in the model name indicates a NEED for a smartphone, or that some properties of the unit are ONLY accessible with use of an app on the smartphone?

I have the map file for Europe (I'm in the UK) for the Garmin 1490 but have been unable to track down the JCV file for it - I'm currently baffled by the various numbers - can anyone enlighten me? The 1490 doesn't do split view as far as I'm aware.

When I turn the key after overnight parking the unit has to search for satellites takes a few minuets to lock up.

Happens every day never did this in the past!

Any thoughts?

How do you cancel a map update in Garmin Express? Downloading the files is going to take 20+ hours!

I need to find a better option.

Today I decided to finally update my Nuvi 660 to the latest map. (I did the 3597 the day 2018.20 came out - to Device & Computer)

So, I plug the 660 into the USB cord. GE comes up and says new map is available for 660. Knowing that GE won't install the map (over 2Gb limit), I close it and open MapInstall.
