Problems to install Garmin Express

As an explanation why I had a frustrating experience with a new and complete re-install of GE v.5.6.2.0

I found several past versions of GE in my Revo-uninstaller. I uninstalled them and that is when my problem started. Try as I might I could not re-install v.5.6.2.0

Finally after a lot of frustration and much time searching the internet the solution to this was found in Microsoft's "How to do a clean reboot in Windows". It has the info for Windows 7, Vista, 8, 8.1 and 10:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perfo...

By following these instructions I was able to do new install of GE v.5.6.2.0 without any more problems.

The instructions will let you make a "Clean Boot Up" of Windows. The following are some of my own instructions in capitalized letters which are a tad easier I think.

Basically what you do to access System Configuration is by holding the "WINDOWS KEY" and the " R " key at the same time and then type MSCONFIG into the box. Then in SYSTEM CONFIGURATION under the GENERAL tab uncheck the "LOAD SYSTEM SERVICES" and the "LOAD SYSTEM" boxes. In my opinion a bit faster and easier than the instruction in the link.

You also need to go into Task Manager and there disable all "Start" items. For that follow the MS Instructions. Two ways to get into the Task Manager. At the same time hold the CTRL,ALT and DELETE KEYS or a bit easier as per the instructions since you are in the System Configuration already select the "Startup" tab and there select "Task Manager.

There is no mention in the Microsoft link whether all this needs to be done in reverse, but I found that after I successfully installed GE and a reboot System Configuration seems to have reset itself. I did have to go back into Task Manager and enable all the items I had disabled before. But you may want to check it all yourself to make sure all is back to normal.

I hope that this may help someone else who has trouble installing Garmin Express. I'm also guessing that this may help if GE will not update using the update in GE itself, though I have not been able to check this out since I have the newest GE installed now..

Melaqueman, in my Win10 system, there is no "LOAD SYSTEM" box to uncheck. I do, however, have a "LOAD STARTUP ITEMS". Is that a difference in Win10 or did you mistype?

GE

I am using Windows 10 Home edition which is usually the most restricted, i.e features which the Pro version has do not work in the Home edition.

Load system service is under the GENERAL tab and is part of
SELECTIVE STARTUP.
I have
Normal Startup (Load all device drivers and services)

Diagnostic Startup (Load basic devices and services only)

Selective Startup (Load System Services + Load Startup items + Use Original Boot configuration - which is grayed out

EDIT time:18:28

If you follow the instructions from Microsoft it has you doing that step differently. Maybe do that, comes out the same in the end.

Clarification

Melaqueman, I have exactly what you have in MSCONFIG. The only thing I was drawing your attention to is from your post TWO ENTRIES AGO:

..."under the GENERAL tab uncheck the "LOAD SYSTEM SERVICES" and the "LOAD SYSTEM" boxes".

I was merely pointing out that what you called the "LOAD SYSTEM" box should have been the "LOAD STARTUP ITEMS". Again, that was from two posts ago.

No Issue

No issue with installing Garmin Express to date.
