Screen Scrolling

Starting to look for a newer gps unit, maybe a 5" 2599LMTHD or a 6" 2639LMT. Something with free map and traffic updating. Been shopping the g.factoryoutletstore.com mostly.

Do any of the units allow scrolling the screen like a tablet or smartphone? I have an old nuvi 650 and to scroll the screen I have to press hard, which then causes points and screws it up. It would be nice to be able to just move the map around easily to see adjacent areas.

Any thoughts?

I

I currently have a newer Nuvi 3597 and an even newer DriveLuxe 50. Both of these devices scoll the map screen very easily and certainly much easier than when using the old Nuvi 3xx or 6xx models.

Nuvi 350, 760, 1695LM, 3790LMT, 2460LMT, 3597LMTHD, DriveLuxe 50LMTHD, DriveSmart 61, Garmin Drive 52, Garmin Backup Camera 40 and TomTom XXL540s.

Nuvi 3597 & RV760

Both scroll easily. However, if you press hard or leave your finger on the screen, it will create a waypoint. I like this feature since it lets you pick a point on the map, create a waypoint and then navigate to it

The glass screen on the 3597 scrolls easier than any other Garmin I've owned. The model has been discontinued but both new and refurbished units can still be found.

recommendation.

THe 3597's are hard to find these days at a reasonable price. If I was needing a new GPS right now, I would get the DriveLuxe 50LMTHD refurb at GPSCity for $149.95. It is a 2016 model and comes with the HD traffic receiver. Also note that it supports SmartPhone Link traffic which is now free.

For the most part I like my DriveLuxe as much as I did the 3597. Sort of miss 3D Terrain but the changes/additions to the menus and interface make up for that.

Features.

I think the main feature I would miss on the DriveLuxe (compared to the 3597) is the additional speaker built into the mount.

About 99.95% of the time I drive with the sound off on the GPS so it really doesn't matter to me. The times I've used the speaker's on the DriveLuxe they were sure loud enough for me.

Thanks for the info. Sounds

Thanks for the info. Sounds like the new units have a much better touch screen. I'll expand my searching and look closer at the features.
