Vehicle icon changed color on 3597

I normally figure things like this out on my own, but this has me stumped. About a week ago, the vehicle icon on seen on the map screen on my 3597 has turned bright yellow and the features on it that were dark like the windshield are now white. All the other colors on the map are correct. I noticed this the 1st time it powered on after I crossed into Canada. I tried selected other icons from the list of vehicles on my list and each are displayed as yellow on the map regardless of their actual color. The colors are correct when seen on the selection screen. And yes, I have tried completely powering off the 3597. My car has now become a lemon. Any thoughts?

Happened to me on my 2595

The same thing happened to me on my 2595 a while back. I tried everything, but nothing worked. Eventually my blue car came back on its own.

Doesn't anyone screen these calls?

wink

As Ray Magliozzi used to say on CarTalk before it went off the air, "Doesn't anyone screen these calls?"

Needless to say, I don't see this with my 3597 (latest map and firmware, etc.) I tried several of the stock 3597 vehicles, all which are blue, and when selected, they remained blue on the map. I also tried changing my theme from Garmin to Danmark and also United Kingdom and the vehicles remained blue.

Here are things you may try:

1) Choose a vehicle from
http://www.vehiclesforgarminnuvi.com/
and install it to your 3597. (I use the gray Subaru Forester.) Are these vehicles also lemons when viewed in your nuvi map?

2) Connect to and run Garmin Express choosing your 3597, then click on Tools&Content, Optional Updates/Other Files, and select a few of the offered vehicles, then install them. Now disconnect, boot up the 3597, and go and select one of the newly installed vehicles. Are they lemons even when you selected a Green Monster Truck or whatever? Depending on your results, go back into your nuvi's files and keep/delete any/all of the new vehicles. If the newly installed vehicles keep their colors, you could delete the stock vehicles on the nuvi now, then reinstall them with Garmin Express and see what happens.

3) Follow WAASup's advice and wait to see if the colors return. (Now if you also say it happened crossing into Canada, that would be very interesting.)

4) When was your last visit to an eye doctor? razz

We are all waiting with bated breath and secretly chuckling as we await your results.

Hmm

WASSup, was a border crossing involved or just a random occurrence? That seems to be long shot, but since I noticed it right after then... Since it healed itself for you is equally puzzling. I thought I might try deleting and reinstalling the vehicle, but since they all exhibited the color change, and they all appear correct on the selection screen, so it makes me think it is something odd with the way the icon is pasted on the map display. BTW, these vehicles icons are direct from Garmin's library without any modification.

How I do miss that show! It used to be one of my Saturday morning staples.

RIP Tom.

Aha? rolleyes

On my 3597 with a stock blue sedan chosen, I went into Simulator mode and set my location to a restaurant in Whitehorse YT (Canada), then did a WhereTo to plan a route to a Tim Horton's. The blue sedan remained a blue sedan BUT if I held a finger on my sedan, it turned YELLOW. I then returned to normal operation (back in the good ole' USA) and selected a route from home, my current location, to a recent destination and tapped the green GO which started the route. Once again, the vehicle was the stock blue sedan but if I held a finger on the sedan, it turned yellow. I also tried my non-Garmin gray Subaru vehicle and it also turns yellow when touched.

Here's a guess. Your 3597 may think you're holding a finger on the vehicle! Try removing the glob of peanut butter off your screen (or just give your screen a good cleaning), then see what happens. Hopefully that could get rid of the lemon. I suppose it could also be a failing digitizer panel in the nuvi making the nuvi think you're pressing the vehicle. In that case, maybe we need to call in sharcnet. You didn't possibly drop or sit on your 3597 right before all went yellow, did you?

I tried the above on an old nuvi 750 and 2460. On the 750, the vehicle remains its default color but is surrounded with a yellow halo. On the 2460 like the 3597, the entire vehicle turns yellow. We may have just discovered a "feature" of Garmin GPS devices. My brief Googling did not bring up anything on the internet for yellow Garmin vehicles.

RE: Does anyone screen these calls

I miss Click and Clack, but they did put several years of episodes up as podcasts and whenever I need a good laugh, I listen to an episode.

As for CraigW's suggestion #!, the problem is cured!!! I connected to GE, and selected a nice red monster truck and voila, the lemon yellow is gone, on all of them. Trying to rationalize this, installing a vehicle must have flipped a bit back where it needed to be for the vehicle to display properly. Turns out to have been a simple fix. Thank you CraigW for the subtle DiNozzo that I needed. smile
