Garmin talk

On my Nuvi 250, when you touch the vehicle icion, it shows the elevation. But the problem is the elevation always keeps changing even if I'm not driving. I've tried many times standing somewhere instead of moving, and checked the elevation. Every time, I got a different number, range from -1 meter to 140 meters. I guess something must be wrong here, but don't know why.

I downloaded the gpx file and tried to use the loader to put it on my Nuvi but the loader doesn't recognize it. Any suggestions?

My job entails visiting all colleges in NY/NJ and NC/SC, is there a POI file I can download of all the colleges to my Garmin Nuvi 200?

As some of you know I am Bus and Limo Driver over the road in the South West USA. I am sorry to say that on some of our buses the cig lighter dose not work. I need a back up for when I get a bus like this. If you are an OTR your rig may not have a working cig lighter. Or your car or pick up may not have a working one in it.

For a brief moment, Costco had the nuvi 360's for $250, but I cant find them on their website anymore.

Anyone know the scoop?

i ve got a nuvi 200 w street pilot , im going to uploud an img of my town on it , got my town's Esri shp files . how can i convert them to an IMG that my unit can work with.

Are the POI's accurate and thurough as well?

How many POI's are pre-loaded on my Nuvi 200? How do I load more without using a USB or paying a ton of money? I appreciate any answers.

The Garmin WebUpdater will update the Nuvi 750 from v2.60 to 2.70. I just performed the upgrade and my unit is working fine.

Recently I had a problem with my Nuvi 660 in that it wouldn't make any sounds out of the internal speaker. It also wouldn't make any sounds via the FM transmitter. I had been using the headphone jack to pipe the audio to my car stereo system, and maybe during one of my connection/disconnections, something got knocked loose inside.

I live in Maryland. I understand that not everything can be pronounced perfectly, but the pronunciation of "Maryland" is terrible. If I can try other voices (British, Australian), I might not have to hear things like, "Turn right on May WILLin 514." There is a very slight pause after "may" and the emphasis is on "Will."

I am new to this so please bare with me. I have a question reguarding saving my POIs to my Garmin Nuvi 660 or to the SD card I have installed. My POI data base is about 10 meg. I was wondering if there is any advantage to saving it directly to the unit or to the SD card?

On the Garmin site, when doing the comparison between the two models.

The 255 model states for Maps: Yes
and the 205 model states: regional.

Can someone explain what is meant by regional. I would imagine that it is restricted in some way, but to what degree.

Does anyone know how to take a POI that I downloaded to my garmin Favorites from MSN direct and move it into the POI main area. I sent a POI from MSN direct and it went into the My favorites area. However it does not come up when I do a search from the POI area.

Just read that the Garmin 650 has been discontinued by Garmin as of January 2008. Hmmmm! Just bought one! Love it! I guess that the technology is getting so much better with every passing day that what you buy today will be outdated tomorrow with a better unit!! I suspect that Garmin will stand by their product even though it is a discontinued model. What are your thoughts?

I just got back from my first use of the 370 walking in Europe, in particular, Venice. We had no internet, so I could not go into google maps and then download coordinates to the nuvi.

So mostly ended up just looking at the map and seeing when we got near Grand Canal or other places I knew about (or some points like our apt. marked before I left home).

I have downloaded the Rest Areas files (from this site) using Garmin's POI Loader. After loading them to the 260, not on a SD card ,I found them under the "Extras" button on my 260. When I push the button, "Custom POIs" comes up. When pushing it again, the Rest Areas are listed, ex."Turnout NB 1-75 MM 23.3 W" My Question is what happens now?
