sent to the wrong place! (mont co, md)

i was trying to go to the healthtrax gym in germantown on goldenrod lane. my friend told me to just follow him.. i told him not to worry because i had my gps with me..

coming from 355N.. my nuvi 660 told me to take a left on goldenrod lane.. when in fact the building was actually to the right!

i was fortunate to jump 4 lanes to catch up to my friend to get to the building which was basically 3 miles farther than what my nuvi had.

how do we update this listing? also.. i noticed that i have two listings of the same destinations after i downlaoded my 2008 North America Map. what gives???!!!

A pedestrian is someone who thought there were a couple of gallons left in the tank.

This is the perfect example

This is the perfect example of why we do custom POIs. There isn't a way to correct the internal POI, so make a POI list and use that.

Is the place in a shopping center that is by itself?

I got the coordinates of -77.258155,39.196991

Google maps was a bit off, but these should be the correct coordinates.

Look at yahoo

Have you checked yahoo or a different online service for the same address or directions? I have noticed on multiple occations that for some reason the address "from the satelite" does not match what is actually on the ground. Sometimes this has been as much as a mile and a half. But it has been the same for yahoo, mapquest and my gps.

Maybe someone else knows for sure, but I am going to assume that the towns street addresses are not uniform or something along those lines.

Errors can be submitted to navteq, http://navteq.com/ then Map Reporter. Was it a wrong address or right address wrong location?

Even that doesn't work sometimes. I had the same thing happen last night and this morning. Last night the place was in the right location; however, the map was missing a road that has been there forever. This morning, my Zumo told me to turn onto a one-way street... the wrong way!

Darn things... sometimes they force you to rely on common sense. Sheesh. grin

routing

It will also make a difference on where the arbitrary point of existence is. That is, if they put the post office mark, or the "911" mark in front of a pole on the opposite side of the street, it can make a difference

lol

in UMBC there was also a one-way street there that i could have turned had i not known it was a one way street

Check System

Whenever my Nuvi try to send me the wrong way on a one way street the first thing I check is the Usage Mode = Automobile also check the Route Preference = faster Time or Shorter Distance.

A setting of Bicycle, Pedestrian or Off Road left accidentally on can send you the wrong way on a one way street.

Often just an approximate location

I find that the GPS location of many businesses is just approximate. The locations seem to be by address and those are usually approximated by the GPS. In a local shopping center near me the business are displayed spreading out over a 1/2 mile distance down the road. It usually gets the side of the road right due to the common odd/even numbering schemes. But I usually find I have to keep my eyes open as I approach a destination.

Approximations

Well, some of those approximates are pretty far off! Garmin has a Starbuck's listed over half a mile from the actual business... they place it in the middle of a townhouse development. Of course, I checked on the Starbuck's website... they have it in the same place.

Before you attack... I've checked it out... there is no Starbuck's there. Well, the one townhouse might've had Starbuck's ground coffee in the kitchen, I'm not sure. However, the actual business isn't even shown... and it's not new. They have the address correct... just not the location. It's wrong in the POI factory file too -- I sent the update though.

Given: -77.07096934318542, 39.15154571937527
Actual: -77.06319630146027, 39.151187959156

Put both into MapSource and you'll see that going to what's given will NEVER get you close to the store. Just interesting... and in Montgomery County, MD too!
