Points of Interest on a map

I know I am probably asking for alot,,,but,,,,,is there any way to take a POI file and see the individual locations on a map?? My wife wants all of the quilt shops on a particular route and short of looking up the telephone exchange codes....which is not a happy thought....I don't know how to see where they are located.

Thanks ---- Ron

Yes go to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/map_input .You will need to first pull up your csv file and put a header row in.Column a=Longitude, Column b=Latitude,Column c= Name and Column d=address. This has to be done to work or you will get error.Once completed on right hand side you will see browse.Select the csv file to load with the header row.Now on bottom right click draw map.You will see the scale once the map comes up to zoom in.

You could use a program like Microsoft's Streets & Trips 2010. This is PC mapping software with the ability to import data from .csv or .gpx files. The result is all the points in a POI file being displayed on a map of North America. You can easily zoom into a particular area and create routes between points.

A 60 day trial of S & T is available from http://www.microsoft.com/streets/en-us/Trial.aspx

I personally prefer the Google Earth. Convert the .csv file into a .kml file. For this purpose you can use any program that can do this conversion. I prefer the POIConverter that can be downloaded from: http://sites.google.com/site/lschwabe/. Once you get your POI file in .kml format open the file using the Google Earth.

.

@wpd909: Ron, Extra POI Editor (EPE) is a free program developed by Turboccc, another POI Factory member.

EPE will display your quilt shops .csv file in Google Maps, Google Earth or Garmin's Mapsource without any conversion needed on your part.

It can be downloaded from:

I would have to second that. This program is the Cat in the Hat for doing this, and many more things.

Displaying POI's

That's great info! Thanks!

It works !!!!

Thanks to everyone !!!! I downloaded the Extra POI Editor and it worked like a champ !!! Also the GPS Visualizer let me put the whole file on a map at the same time and then I can delete points from the CSV file that are not on the roads they want to travel on.
