Garmin Lock

Why is it that the Garmin lock feature will still allow the unit to navigate through audible commands to the last programed location. This is a problem in my mind. Let's say the last place I had set the unit to navigate to was home and that is also my security location and someone steals my garmin follows the prompts to the location and then unlocks the unit... does anyone else see this as a flaw??? this occurs on both my 660 and 760...

Garmin Lock

Don't set your unlock location at home. Pick another site. You can use your code to unlock it.

Same old discussion over and over again. If you care about your GPS enough to bother with the lock every time that you turn it on, the don't leave it where it can be stolen in the first place. And then you don't need the lame lock.

???????????

I guess I am at a loss...on my 750 if you lock it you cannot do anything until you unlock it or are at the position you set the lock code. Am I missing something on the 660 and 760?

Easier to just not lock it...

I use a bean bag mount and just put the whole thing under the dash. If the car gets broken into, the GPS is not high on my prioity list. Insurance will take care of that.

Make sure you stop the directions before you turn it off then it won't still be running next time you turn it on?

You are right!!!

If she has her home currently running as a destination then obviously she needs to stop it in the main menu...hope she doesn't have to find her way home every time.

Agreed 120%.

One more thing let me add it up.

They broke my window and stole my old Mio 310x because I only took down the GPS, I left the bracket on windshield. So these crackhead figure it out GPS must be in the car and broke my window.

Another good idea - Hide your GPS before you park your car at the destination unless you can take it with you.

Don't rely on that Garmin Lock. Just hide it! A crackhead doesn't care. He will sell the locked unit for $5 or so.

Good Luck

More advice for those who believe they will be happier when their GPS is stolen because they know it was locked but left in the car: Thieves will gladly break a $200+ car window in order to steal your $99 GPS. You can protect the window by rolling it down so that it is hidden inside the door, where is is much more difficult to break. When you do this there is a chance that a thief will put a big screw driver in the ignition lock to force it - it will ruin the lock even if they just take the car on a short joy ride or if it is later recovered. You can protect the ignition from this by using something to block the screwdriver from entering the ignition; I suggest gluing one of the keys into the ignition to keep thieves from forcing a screw driver in there.

Or, of course, you could just take the GPS with you when you leave the car, but if you always do that you can't feel good about fooling with the Garmin lock all of the time.

Lock

I think I had that problem once before, but every since I have been stopping the navigation before shutting the unit off, I have not noticed it happening again. I only thought about it after reading this thread.
I dont use the lock any more. I just take the 750 with me when I leave the car. And, I make sure that I dont leave anything else visible in the car that might alert the criminal element that something valuable may be in the car. Last week, some nitwit broke out the side window on my daughter's car because they thought the plastic air freshener hanging on the air conditioner vent might be a cell phone or something simuliar. crying
