trouble with on/off switch

My Garmin 760 is almost 3 years old. Recently, I find if I turn it off, it won't always turn back on. Yesterday, it wouldn't turn on when on 12v, but the cable lights were on. I then tried it on UPS; no results. I left it plugged into the computer overnight, and when I booted the computer this morning, it came on. Looking for ideas as to how to proceed.

There have been reports

Other users have reported their units will not power up until the battery has a charge. If your battery was flat, which with a 3 year old unit is possible, then charging it overnight may have resolved your problem. You may want to look into doing a bettery replacement. There are numerous threads here that cover battery replacement with contacts and how-to video links.

Given the problems people

Given the problems people have reported with the switch, I use the power cord in my car to turn it off and on. I don't know if your particular model is one affected by it, but I want to keep mine going so I just power it on and off by the car instead.

So, what did you use to connect it to the United Parcel Service and why did you think that would work? smile Ahhh, you're a good crowd.

Package string or twine has been disallowed for both UPS and USPS for years. Automation caused things to get caught in the machinery, so tape must have taken its place.

Come back with a better answer after you wake up from sleeping with the boss.
