iQue3600 base map

Is there any way to load a iQue 3600 World-Wide Basemap, Ver. 3.01 on to an SD (2GB) card and use it in a Garmin 255W ?

And if so, why would you want to? ... I mean would it be worth the effort and can/will it be useful for any reason.

Thanks a lot !

You need to

Load it in the main unit. Basically you backup the GMAPBMAP.img (base map) to your PC and then copy that world base map there (all Garmin basemaps are the same name). This is the best basemap, even though it is 5 years old. I used it on my 3600 (died 1 year ago) as well as regular unit and on PPC.

Jeff, Thanks for the swift

Jeff,

Thanks for the swift response... I not sure I understand what you mean. I have the map on my desktop... do I install on my PC and copy it into my garmin folder where the "GMAPBMAP.img" file already exist?

You mentioned "backing up" "GMAPBMAP.img" to my harddrive...? Can you explain to this novice in a little more detail how this works.

Thanks greatly for you help on this.

Garmin

When you connect Garmin unit to your PC via USB cable, the main GPS unit basically becomes a USB drive through your PC and you can copy all files to your PC as a backup. This is also a recommended step before you upgrade your GPS firmware to your GPS unit, just in case thing goes wrong and you can simply copy the entire content back to restore.

The unit can only have one base map so you have to overwrite the basemap currently in the unit (exactly the same name as Garmin software are hard coded to recognize map files). You need to backup the original basemap as outlined above in case you change your mind. You should be able to extract the iQue 3600 basemap from the Garmin package, I think it is about 32 MB in size.
