Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Saturday evening I was at the Public Library looking for the after hours drop box and a teenager pedestrian showed me where it is.

Then he asked me if I knew where the ice skating rink is.

I looked it up on my 295W and it was about 3 miles away. He was shivering in his light jacket and I asked him if he was driving. He told me that he could not drive because of health problems.

So I took him there. He said that his friends would be there and would take him back home.

You did your good deed for the day. cool

Oh, definitely so--especially in areas where public transportation is...not the best in the world, doing something nice like that IS wonderful grin

Android navigation to work and home

I'm starting to test my Android phone navigation (with the basic Google navigation app) a little more and so far, I'm pretty happy with it. I do have very good cell (and 3G at that) coverage in the areas I frequent, and so far, so good. Will be trying it out more over the next few weeks. No issues so far...

Checking 255W out

confused A few weeks ago I decided mto check out my GPS on a short (100 mile) trip from Meridian to Jackson to visit my Hearing aid professional. I entered the address and followed the GPS directions to Brandon, MS. This chosen route got me lost twice due to lack of road signs, quite a few turns onto secondary roads, and even through a gated community that I was not supposed to be in. Thank God I was in a car and not pulling my fifth wheeler.

The chosen route was definitely not the best route, even for a car. We arrived at our destination 30 minutes late, after stopping twice to ask directions.

How do I get the device to pick only routes on major roads? I purchased it for traveling with a large truck and trailer. I'm going to have to be very careful using it in a strange city. It definitely attempts to route you on the shortest distance between two points.

Check preferences.

Make sure you have "Fastest" selected for the routing preference and uncheck any unnecessary avoidances. I have had the best luck removing all avoidance preferences. Also, check to see that you have "Automobile" selected for "Usage Mode" in the System settings.

Across the room.

The last trip for my Garmin was about 12 feet, just moved it across the room to hook it up to the computer as a new map update had been released. Then, before I knew it Monday was here so it was time to post something, anything at all, for a weekly windmill post. Sigh.

Someone said yard work

Yeah, time to go to the backyard and take care of the dogs, cats, las tortugas, rana (frog), and heaven only know what else might have moved in over the weekend. Oh yeah, my soon to be sushi, fish.

We R Here

My obsolete Nuvi got us to Pigeon Forge TN, enjoying the nip in the air we hardly get in Tampa.

Yes, there's a glut in storage, and yet the speculators are pushing it higher. It's criminal.

Montgomery, AL

I spent the day in Montgomery, AL. I had forgotten that there were red light cameras there or that I had downloaded the Red Light Camera file a couple of weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised to hear my GPS sound off with timely warnings.

I was amazed at the small and insignificant signs announcing that the intersections were photo controlled. I did not see the first 2 signs and only saw the 3rd because traffic was backed up from the red light. The signs were no warning for me at all.

Bless Miss Poi and all of you who report these cameras. It is nice to have a heads up!
