Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

There was an article in the trash can liner this morning stating if you have a job, you can feel pretty secure. Companies aren't anticipating any more layoffs, but they still are not hiring as they don't know what new regulations the government is going to put on them.

Drove from Daytona, Flor-i-duh yesterday to Moss Point, MS on way to New Orleans today. 540 miles, no problems except Comfort Inn, Moss Point incorrect coordinates. Wrong side of street. will send in correct locations on our return next weekend. Nice place to stay !
Also, wasn't sure whether Welcome Center/Rest Area entering MS from the East alerted me - will check file when I get home too. Who ever is responsible for that file should be shot ! (oops)

The last GPS trip

Last trip was to the allergist--and was the first "hard test" for CoPilot on the Android as far as CoPilot's routing abilities. (They proved to work VERY well, especially as said allergist is in a side-entrance in a medical center.)

Next planned GPS usage--hunting down gyro places locally! grin

Driving Test

I am going to take my 87 year old father in-law to take his second drivers test today, and I'm going to sneak my GPS into his back seat to see where in the heck they have him drive off to. Might be interesting.

San Jose to Palo Alto

My nuvi 760 CORRECTLY routed me around a 45 minute delay due to a major accident. Glad that I took its advice and didn't ignore like I usually do. smile

GPS for daughter

Got a basic Garmin for my daughter. She knows Chicago very well but she keeps the gps in the glove compartment. It has kept her and her girlfriends out of trouble on several occasions when she did get a tad lost. I don't think her or any of her girlfriends really know what a map is.

This made me think of a funny story, well sort of. I went to renew my drivers license awhile back. This older very talkative lady was sitting next to me. She asked how long I had been waiting and I said just a few minutes. She said she had been there 3 or 4 hours. When I asked why, she said that her and her husband renew their drivers licenses at the same time. She takes the test first and then takes her older husband out to drive the route she took about 10 times before he goes in and takes his test. Seems there is always a way to beat the system.

heading

to Louisville, ky

Key West

My wife and I flew down to Key West this past Monday and rented a car. I brought our Nuvi 1450 with us and it's been worth its weight in gold.

Yesterday, for example, we drove to Marathon Key (47 miles up the Keys) to some really out-of-the-way restaurant (called "Castaway." Super restaurant, highly recommend it) and Roxy took us right to their front door and then back to our Bed-and-Breakfast in Key West. Took all of the angst out of the trip.

Almost back

Driving trip to New Orleans and all around NO was uneventful and error free except for hitting a "gator" (truck tire tread) in the middle of I-10 last night outside of Milton, FL. Bashed in rear quarter panel on the car.
Lane Assist feature on the Nuvi 1490 was very helpful in the NO area.
A few changes to Rest Areas file to make for temp closures and a reopening.
NO was a lot of fun but Mr. Weather didn't cooperate for night time activities in the French Quarter.

Dang, after seeing where the DMV had him drive I think I might be in trouble in 20 or 30 years. He drove places I didn't know existed!

Gave a youngster a lift

Saturday evening I was at the Public Library looking for the after hours drop box and a teenager pedestrian showed me where it is.

Then he asked me if I knew where the ice skating rink is.

I looked it up on my 295W and it was about 3 miles away. He was shivering in his light jacket and I asked him if he was driving. He told me that he could not drive because of health problems.

So I took him there. He said that his friends would be there and would take him back home.

Cool

I used mine last weekend

I used mine last weekend when I was out of town in a rural area. I heard over the car radio that there was an accident on the only major highway going north blocking all lanes and I was unfamiliar with the area. The lifetime traffic has no coverage in the area I am traveling through, so I routed myself to a nearby town 20 miles away and detoured onto another highway to link back to that major highway further north of the accident. Thank goodness for the garmin. I only lost 40 minutes on the detour rather than waiting who knows how many hours on the stopped traffic at the accident site.

for red light cameras

When to Nassua co. and just used it for where the cameras are.
