Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Yes, there's a glut in storage, and yet the speculators are pushing it higher. It's criminal.

Oh, even worse than that--they've been pushing up the price of gas some 40 cents locally...just on the news of the Libyan branch of the Jasmine Revolution working on getting Gaddafi out of office.

No matter that the US doesn't even get petroleum from Libya--Libya exports to Europe, not the States, because we had a trade embargo in place forever (ironically, because of the same SOB the Libyan Jasmine Revolution is trying to throw out...and more precisely, aforementioned SOB essentially commissioning bombings of nightclubs and a 747 over Lockerbie, Scotland a few decades back).

I want to go "HEY WHY YOU DO THIS. YOU DON'T EVEN GET GAS FROM LIBYA. STOP WITH THE PRICE GOUGING ALREADY" >:(

As for my last trip with the GPS--nothing this week, but preparing for a big trip shortly where aforementioned phone GPS will come in VERY handy. grin

Our last trip with the GPS

Our last trip with the GPS was from Florida to Virginia over the Christmas holidays. On our way back, we took the long way home and went through Shenandoah National Park. I had just found this site, and had loaded everything from the Bigfoot POI files to the Tourist files, to all the red light cameras. The GPS definitely enhanced our experience. Not to mention, we also did a lot of geocaching using our GPS while we were on vacation. We had a blast!

Baltimore and Back

Used the Android phone again with good results. Signal (to include data connectivity) was not a problem this trip and all went well. Not ready to switch from the dedicated navigation device (Nuvi 760), but overall, very impressed with the capabilities of the Android navigation.

From Phoenix back home to...

Vegas. Took friends visiting from Alaska and went to the NASCAR race in Phoenix. Now it's on to the 3-day NASCAR weekend in Vegas!

Mustang Hunting

Up north to check out a mustang and then stopped off at Pinks to try a hot dog. Worked great.

My Garmin is still sitting in the house, I just need to make my weekly windmill post...

Used it going to the races last night.

Amazing 680

My trusty 680 with traffic is still holding up well in the Greater LA region.

Left the house at 9am and didn't return until 8pm at nite. The traffic was pretty accurate and estimated times of destination was very functional.

Rugby of course

Update:

Cal Bears now 16-0. Current scoring total 988-51. Last match was also a bit close, 95-0.

Just got back from a trip in

Just got back from a trip in Italy using our friend Karen the GPS. Surprisingly, she did pretty ok pronouncing all the Italian named towns and streets, despite her best attempt to get us lost at about half the roundabouts. Sadly, it seems reality view on the 775 was only for limited US locations. Not once does she show the lane changes in Europe.

Glad to be safely home again .

Back home again in Western South Dakota from Eastern Nebraska.

Saw several out of control skids into the ditches and one rollover. All from driving too fast on snow packed roads.

Gambling Trip

The wife and I went from Malvern to Tunica, MS for a few days of fun. No problems with our new 255W (replaced our stolen 250W). I know it is an older model, but I got a killer deal on it. smile

Delta Queen

Took a trip to ST Louis MO for the Missouri Valley Basketball Tournament and then to Chattanooga TN to spend a 44th wedding anniversary on the riverboat Delta Queen. The only problem was when the Garmin wanted to have me turn right while crossing the Tennessee River to the road below. I did not follow those directions and drove around to the boat.
While on the boat in the bar, another patron had the same experience so it is Garmin Maps with the problem.

Around town

Still using the Android phone and Google Navigator for most navigation tasks. Working well and better than ever with the addition of rerouting to avoid traffic. While there are still occasional issues with connectivity, overall the app keeps getting better and better.

My last trip

In August 2010, my Gramin 350 led me from central Florida to Durango Co. to ride the Durango & Silverton train. From there to the Grand Canyon in Az. Then to San Antonio Tx to see the Alamo, and back home to Florida with out any mishap

San Clemente to Palm Desert

Used the Garmin to get from San Clemente to Palm Desert. I put "avoid toll roads" and it took us on "highway 74" which is a VERY twisty road through and down and around a mountain. Pretty hairy, lots of motorcycle riders testing their skills. A "Hells Kitchen" biker stop. Couldn't wait to get to level ground, but the Garmin got us to our destination. Said the hotel was on the right, but it was on the left. This happens a lot.

my last trip

I had to drive 1600 miles from Phoenix Az USA to Kelowna BC Canada. I uploaded my geocaching pocket querys into my Nuvi so I can see the geocaches coming up on the screen while we were driving. It works great if you upload the gpx into the gpx folder then it will show up in favourites.

Rugby of course, Again...

Cal Bears 17-0, season accumulative score now stands at 1094-51.

Most recent, Cal 106, U.C. Davis 0.

Used on our

trip to from Houston to Branson, Mo. last week and a meandering trip through Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana. Trip started as a road trip to Memphis for BarBQue.

Best trips the wife and I have are the "hey babe lets drive to New Orleans for a bowl of gumbo" (500 miles) that turn into week long tours of places one or both of us has never been.

I do the same thing with my Nuvi 765T and then use my Oregon 550 or 60CSX to zero in. Also grabbed a few geocaches in MO and TN.
