Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Traffic crunches--

GPS paid for itself yesterday morning -- I needed to get to a downtown rehearsal. Plugged in the destination address; I knew generally where I was going.

About 5 miles from the destination, the freeway is grinding to a stop! I bailed to surface streets, my Nuvi said "Have it your way" ("recalculating" is so boring...) and figured out a new route, getting me to my destination.

Heard later on that is was a combo of lanes closed for emergency repairs plus those same lane closures causing a few fender-benders hat snarled things up for quite a while.

It's nice having someone along to navigate!

Heading home

"Jill" got us to each of the 4 Holiday Inn Express hotels from Houston to Massachusetts. Great places to stay from folks traveling and in need for a clean, comfy room with coffee makers/fridges flat screen TV's and a complimentary breakfast to get you on your way.
The amenities vary. One Holiday Inn Express had a "Manager's Reception" with free BEER & WINE and appetizers. It was awesome!

AZ to IA

Made our yearly AZ to IA trip. Left near record AZ highs in the 90s to near record IA cold in in the low 30s. Needless to say, we're freezing our a---- off!

The good ol' nuvi 350 is still pointing us in the right direction. It's really given us our moneys worth.

Europe

We took ours to Europe last year and bought the European map disk. Found interesting places on the internet and then entered their coordinates and our hotels, friends homes, etc into our Favorites before we left. It worked great, taking us where we wanted to go and it had all of the little one lane roads in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany for us to explore too.

Last Trip with Mary Jane

Gwen and I went on a weekend trip to Tunica, MS to get away from family, donate some money to the casino gods, and try out the new POI file I put into my Nuvi 200W. As it turned out, the only way to get away from family is to turn off the cellphones (not the best alternative). For sure we donated to the casino gods as the video poker machines continually refused to pay off for a pair of threes. And finally, the POI file (rest areas with special icon and reportedly hilarious flushing noise) refused to work. Still don't know why, it shows up under the special POIs button but won't "activate". Oh well ... I need to read some more I guess.
Anyway, had a fairly good time in Tunica and will try again when we collect enough aluminum cans to buy another tank of gas.

Wisconsin trip

I use my 1490 daily for various work related destinations but also used it for a trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin a couple weeks ago. It's invaluable when traveling late at night to locate the nearest gas stations, rest areas and restaurants...wouldn't travel without it!

Louisiana

Just got back from a trip to Louisiana. Left a little donation to the Indians. The only problem that I had with the GPS was that all of a sudden it wanted be to do a U-turn when I was I-10. It happen several times. Finally took the battery out and reinstall. It worked fine after that.

I'm doing Miami to Barcelona on May 7th via a Trans Atlantic cruise on the NCL Epic.

I plan to use my Barcelona cityXplorer map with my 3790LMT and see how that gets me around town and on the Barcelona Metro. I'll probably write a couple of articles about how it works.

You must have just passed a couple of places that sold 'boudin' and your GPS wanted you to turn around so that you could get some and buy some 'cracklin' while you were at it.

That is a good excuse. Never though about that one. I should have turn around to see if it would take me to a 'boudin' place. Haven't had any boudin or cracklin in a long time. I might have to look into it the next time that I am in Louisian.
