Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Baltimore and Back

Took at drive on I95 south of Baltimore, then back up north later in the day. Heavy traffic and Nuvi 760 warned me.

Also of note, the Android navigation running in parallel on my phone provided slightly differing options for a few stretches of the drive. Will need to dig into that a little more to see how the optimization is setup.

Wedding

Went to a wedding in the middle of nowhere in TN and without GPS, I wouldn't have found it. Five cars followed me as I left since they did not have GPS... no idea how they got there in the first place.

Roadside Attractions

Took my daughter to some of the RoadsideAmerica.com attractions in Georgia. Then took her to Memphis and then Mobile. Garmin found everything, right on target.

Spent an extra hour on a route because the wife stated "we need to follow the GPS" rather than taking the more direct route. Coming home was much faster.

Out into the desert in CA and AZ

We take a group from our neighborhood (we're all over 60!) out 4 wheeling into the desert each Wednesday, and I use my Garmin to "track" where we go. When we get back I post our tracks on my computers Google Earth, and email the new track to everyone that went, so they can see where we were on their Google Earth.

Everyone loves it!

Long Trip?

Yes indeed. Retired, and the wife and I rode Alaska in July 2009. Including the Dalton Hwy "Haul Road" north to ANWR. 6K miles.

In 2010 we rode the southeast U.S., about 5K miles. Both rides on our 2005 Harley Softail.

This year we are on our Harley Trike riding to the rest of the National Parks in the Lower 48. 24K miles, April thru August. Done 4K miles and 400 pictures.

We stop and "smell lots of roses" along the way and are in no rush to enjoy this great country.

Thanks to all who have submitted POI files.

I program it everywhere I go... I usually like to see the time it says I will be there when I leave and try to keep on that time..It can be difficult at times with all the traffic lights and slower (and bad) drivers out there... It just makes a game out of sitting in your car...

Just came back from a trip to San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande along the California coast. GPS came in handy on these two lane country roads in the rural part of San Luis Obispo looking for a friend's house.

Buffalo

Buffalo, Texas not the NY one. Found out that a 2 hour trip can become a 4 hour trip when your wife's GPS is set to avoid highways (I45) and traffic. After reconfiguring, we were back to getting home a 7 instead of the back road estimate of 9.

In SF? I would rather take MUNI. It is faster, no parking to worry about, and it goes everywhere.
