Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Madison, WI

Used mine on a trip to Madison to locate the REI store using the REI POI file. Could also have used the POI for Madison restaurants. Will download it for next time.

This might be the

first week we have not used the GPS this year sad It's not gathering any dust though since we're preparing for three long trips this summer. Downloading POIs and updating our routes.

Baltimore and Back

... and no lockups today on the 760 smile

Received a traffic warning (1 minute delay) for the northbound leg at the Fort McHenry Tunnel - turned out to be fine in the EZ Pass lane.

Also received a warning about heavy traffic towards Cecil county, but exited prior to that, so I was not able to confirm. Overall, a passing grade today.

Went to Red Rocks in Morrison, Co

My 765T was spot on getting me there with no problems

Oddly before the storm this weekend, ended up going to a Target for a bike seat but after getting there and planning a trip onward to another I haven't been to I decided to save the gas and called it quits. I have to admit that its been less and less use in the past months.

Last Trip

San Diego

Canada's largest cruise-in...

near London, Ontario. Called the Fleetwood Country Cruize-In, it had over 3,000 cars on a guy's estate (that included a golf course on his grounds).

Coming from the Detroit area, a few miles (or KM) into Canada the 1490T blinked off and took what seemed like an extraordinarily long time to come back on after a hard restart, but otherwise got me where I had to go.

Just around town...

I used the EcoRoute function

I used the EcoRoute function of the Garmin 1490 recently to drive from Bel Air to Baltimore, a distance of under 30 miles. The estimated drive time was 1.5 hrs, and I would have saved a few cents worth of gas in a Prius. I disabled it.

Now that's saving!?!

At an average of 20 MPH that the EcoRoute calculated, it must have figured that you wanted to use a bicycle to save that fuel!

San Antonio to Washington DC. under the guidance of my SP 2730 with XM/ On my Harley Ultra Classic, the touch screen quit working just short of Arlington VA and droped the route. although it would still track and the map still worked I couldn't make any inputs and had no idea where I was going wtih out the route. That is how spoiled I have become. Having riden the return route many times I had no trouble making it home but didn't take the back roads this time. Garmin replaced it and I am still trying to get POI uploaded and favorite routes re entered. Ya don't know how much you miss it till its gone.

Mountain passes in Switzerland

Last week Thursday to Sunday I had the pleasure to drive some mountain passes in Switzerland, about 900 miles altogether, using my new TomTom Rider. Everything worked well. smile

Just got back from the Mid-west.

Why do they call it the Mid-West when it is Central US? No where close to the West.

Double Check

Double check the icons (bmp files) you loaded with your POI files. Make sure they are all 24x24 pixels or less. Some units hang if an oversize icon tries to appear on the display.

Motorcycle pick up

We punched in an address in Webster, Mass. to go pick up a motorcycle for my very excited nephew. In his excitement he neglected to find out if it was "street" or "road". We had a 50/50 shot of being right, so we chose "street". Garmin took us there just fine, but the odds weren't in our favor, the address was "road". Eventually we got there, loaded the bike into the covered trailer. The sky then opened up and it poured all the way home.
The bike went into the garage where my 22 yr. old nephew used the rain time to clean, polish and admire his new to him first motorcycle.

Traffic (TTN) Fail Yesterday

Traveling south of Baltimore yesterday, we ran into stopped traffic on I95 close to Route 100. No traffic warning until probably 20 minutes into the parking event, and the traffic signal appeared to be strong throughout the trip. Turns out it was a car fire, vehicle was on the side and on a tow truck by the time we passed, but I never saw the tow truck pass on the shoulder. Not sure if any other traffic service picked up the problem, but this was one that added 30-45 minutes to the overall trip time.

To Elk Neck State Forest

To sight in a new scope on a new (to me) rifle.

In December...

...I will be going to Florida with some of my family. I know it is a tourist trap, but we are also seeing my parents.

I wonder if the oil spill will be at their beach when we get there? What a disaster! So many people out of work, and hundred year old sea turtles lying dead on the beach!

Canada here I come

We're leaving in a couple of days to visit our neighbors to the north. We were supposed to go to Niagara Falls and Toronto for our anniversary. Turns out that weekend is the G20 summit in Toronto. Needless to say we wanted nothing to do with that, so we're going up a week or so early. Hopefully my C550 and my phone with Mobile XT pulls me through this trip.

Just back from our first

Just back from our first extended trip with our Nuvi 265WT. We toured the desert southwest leaving Southern CA for Sedona, Grand Canyon and Zion wrapping up with a weekend in Las Vegas (Jersey Boys rocks!).

Absolutely no problems with the GPS and thoroughly enjoyed having it on hand. Funniest moment was while driving along the shore of Lake Powell. The nuvi obviously knows where the lake's upper levels are and cleared showed our SUV swimming along...
