Keeping the Windmill Alive - Where was your last trip with your GPS?

If anyone is in danger of losing their windmill, maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive smile.

This isn't my last trip, but I thought I'd share this.

My sister and her husband just got back from England and Scotland. Before they left they purchased a Nuvi 270. She said it saved their marriage.

With absolute accuracy, it took them down old dirt wagon roads and goat paths until they reached their destination - an old English cottage in the middle of no where that belonged to an old aunt. I saw the pictures of these four ft. wide dirt roads and was amazed that a GPS even knew they existed.

The GPS also was a big help in city driving as well.
After much debate, they were truly happy with their decision to buy it for this trip. She said the could have rented one for $20 a day out there and they stayed 20 days. Considering they paid $400 for it here in the US, it paid for itself. My sister said that if she never used it again, she got her monies worth!
(Being a golfer and a motorcycist, I'm sure she'll be using it again, and again.)

Latest Vacation

We last used the GPS for our vacation. Or, should I say, tried to use it. Something happened and it wouldn't calculate routes to 100%. I finally had to do a master reset and that seemed to clear things up.

Garmin nüvi 765T, nüvi 350

Just returned from a trip to NCal

using our 765T in a few places to find a Costco and a Best Buy. By far the most use we get out of the GPS is finding businesses we've never been to before, and keeping track of remaining miles to whatever destination we're pointed at.

Haven't tried the new firmware update yet, but am interested in the speed limit sign turning red when over the speed limit. Had a friend who had an older nuvi that had that feature and was surprised when it didn't work on the 765T.

Been using it to find new

Been using it to find new locations to take the Grandkids.

St. Louis

Used it for a trip to and from St. Louis. MSN actually routed me around road construction on I44.

Darn....missed posting last week. Got busy with

family wedding and just didn't have time to post. We did you the GPS to get from Vegas to Tempe. Even though we've driven the route enough that even the car has it memorized, it's still good to have an accurate estimate for the time of arrival smile

Leave Saturday for a motorcycle trip to Spokane....and yes we'll be using the GPS to get there!

Me too

I find doing this myself too. Put her on mute and keep an eye on my arrival time. Helps out a lot if I know I need to stop for something along the way.

Roadside Attractions

I did something a bit different this weekend. I got on the Roadside America website and located some attractions in my area and visited 4 of them. Some of them were pretty mundane, but I always enjoy the hunt more than the kill. My 765T helped me immensely, both in finding the attractions and in getting back home.

Saturday

To my girlfriend's house in downtown Denver, then to a very nice Italian place, then my way out of the downtown area.

Got back last Monday

Just got back last monday from a 1 week, 2200 mile Motorcycle ride with my brother. We started in Sacramento, CA, up into Oregon on I-5, over to the Coast, then up the coast to the mouth of the Colombia River. We followed the Colombia river, then dropped into Southwest Idaho (near Boise) and visited family for several days.

We then went through South-East Oregon, then down 395 into Reno and home. I used the GPS on this trip (265T), had all of the hotels and gas stops in a POI file. The GPS came in real useful finding our hotel in Portland, OR, and, in all places, Pendleton, OR!

If anyone wants to take a truly beautiful drive, north of Roseburg, OR, take Highway 138 into Elkton then west on Highway 38 to the Coast. This follows the Umpqua River and is magnificent in it's beauty!

Weekend Trip

Trip to Baltimore and back; had a lockup on the Nuvi 760 at an inopportune time while searching for food. Luckily a passenger was able to address the problem while I drove.

To utah!

Traveled from the Sacramento area through the beautiful sierra Nevada mountains through the Nevada desert all the way to Utah. Have made the trip tons of times but I love having my nuvi with me for the trip.

Palm Desert to Ventura

We used our Garmin Nuvi 750 on our recent trip to the beach (Ventura). It was very helpful several times, finding several restaurants and we took a different route back to Palm Desert.

The extra's

After reading another post, I need to point out to everyone that custom POI's often include a phone number. Very important since one can call ahead to ensure the POI (as in resturant or gas station) is open. We almost ran out of diesel fuel this spring when we found out that all of the (diesel) stations in the town were closed already!

Murano/Nuvi 765T trip comparison

jolette wrote:

I'm making a Brooklyn to North Myrtle Beach run in July, and will be comparing my 765Ts routing to the nav system in my new 2010 Murano LE.

Hopefully, deciding on which to follow when the directions are different, won't impact me too adversely if I make the wrong decision.

I'm back, and the results of my Murano/Nuvi 765T GPS NY/Myrtle Beach trip comparison are:
The Murano's GPS has many feature's to recommend it, such as voice destination routing, etc., but from a mapping perspective, the Nuvi wins hands down (at least along my I95 route). Possibly my 2010 Murano does not have the latest maps available but what was installed, missed a few new roads & exits in North & South Carolina. Also, searching for specific POIs along our route was much easier using the 765T.

Use it today

I'll be lost without it when taking a 4 days trip in New York.

We canoed in Wisconsin last Saturday. For some reason the unit shut off twice unexpectedly. One good thing though, you can't get lost on a river.

I'm currently driving though

I'm currently driving though the Smoky Mountains with my Garmin 3790t and the terrain view is spectacular on the fabulous screen. I'm also driving with the 1490t is the white background boring maps don't do the mountain view any justice.

Last Trip with GPS

I have been out of state for a while and using my nuvi 765T on a daily basis to navigate the traffic issues of big eastern cities and to find all of those things I need to live day to day i.e. stores, food, gas, etc. Sure is a lot different then the small streets I am used to back home in Santa Fe...

Last Trip

was to Glacier NP.

Actually that's not perfectly true - about half way into the trip a family friend pried the 775t - and its Euro mapset - out of my hands to use in Austria. I fedexed it back and used another gps for the rest of my trip.

Garmin and Droid Incredible

Just to test out the free Google map navigation on my Droid, I set up my garmin and the Droid to navigate me from my rental property to my house (1 hour away). The Droid actually navigated 15 minutes out of the way while the Garmin took me alon my familar route.

Well so much for thinking I could get rid of the Garmin and replace with my phone. Still the phone will be good in a pinch.

on our motorcycles. Garmin 260 is working great and it's been fun all the way!

Central Ohio to Phoenix

Last trip was to Phoenix and back (2100 miles each way). I use a Nuvi 775T. It saved me so much aggravation in the cities we passed through. I always knew which lane to be in and that made the trip so much easier. I would hate to be without it!

Oxnard Salsa Festival....

10 members of family and friends took a trip today to the Oxnard Salsa Festival here in So Cal.

We got to taste many different types and heat levels of the fiery goodness. Yes, we were sweating from it as we were practically drinking it, but IT WAS WORTH IT!!! There was dancing, Carne Asada Tacos and much more!

The Nuvi 750 led our caravan to and from the site flawlessly as usual and allowed a steady stream of country music there and back.

WOO HOO!!!!

just got back

Went to Cocoa beach Fl, then a cruise to the Bahamas and back. Then to Disney world for a friends wedding then home. All together about 1500 miles driving -- I'm Tired! smile

latest trips

Well, my latest trips have been to a close friends house on the lake. They live directly across the Emory River from the TVA Ash Spill site. It's a wonderful place on the lake, and they trees hide the clean up site and muffle the noise from most of the machinery over there.

I also took a few trips with my antique car club to some picnic areas and got a break from all the heat we have had around here the 40th + day in a row.

Let's hear it for Recently Found!

Headed for a specialty store over the weekend, one I visit every few months. Thought I'd stored the location in my Nuvi -- nope!

But I remembered that last time, I had the Nuvi search for it -- so it still should be around under Recent Searches -- and it was! Bingo!

And when I arrived, I stored the location, so it will show up in Favorites, even if I do a bunch of searches.

Work

Use it for work everyday in chicagoland. I can't possibly remember all of the streets in the town and suburbs....Let alone remember which way the one-way streets run and which streets no longer go all the way through because of neighborhood blockades.
