Updates

Here we are mid March and still no update. Over a month overdue compared to previous years. If here.com is any indication not likely much will change, at least in my area. Some streets in my area not showing on Here have been on TeleAlas and even Cloud-made for over a year. Height of complacency and arrogance. They could at least explain on their website. Don't bet the farm on that.

Not sure about "arrogance," but I suspect when HERE (for the last time, Garmin does not make maps. They get the maps from HERE. It is their data, not Garmin's) allows user editing of maps of the USA, that accuracy will be at an all-time high. I wish I knew when that was though...they've been piloting other parts of the world for easily over a year or so.

Also: Page 8! That's a record for me smile

I just need

I just need reminding...
Tell me again how removing "Up to Four" from Lifetime map update's wording will allow Garmin to increase map updates above the Previously Promised "Up to Four?

Now that we have page 8 - onward to page 9 we go...and beyond.

Now that we have page 8 - onward to page 9 we go...and beyond.

Good thing Garmin doesn't handle anything important like air traffic control, NORAD or NASA...or banks, automobile and railroad software programs.

But...I understand Garmin has been hired to handle the IRS, the Veterans Administration and the State Department. And, they are in talks with OPEC to handle crude oil production.

Garmin = Excellence in programming - that any 1st year programmer could do better!

Not sure what map I am

Not sure what map I am using, probably the map prior to 2015.30 (2015.20 maybe or even .10). I don't update every time, as you can probably tell. I do try to update at least 2/yr.

Updates

You would be well advised to update every time new map comes out. Garmin assumes one no longer has the device in question and disallows updates after considerable inactivity. I have known this to occur. Just a word of caution.

Don't go more than 2 years

I would update at least once a year. If you go over 2 years, Garmin will assume the device is no longer active and can terminate the Lifetime Maps for that device.

HERE

You make a good point about Garmin's association with HERE. HERE is owned by Nokia, a Finnish based telecommunications giant whose phones have pretty much gone the way of the dodo in North America. They bought out NAVTEQ which was based in Chicago in 2007. Obviously there is less NA concentration and spread out more globally.

other way around

Navteq bought Nokia's mapping operations IIRC.

127 Days Thus Far - Beating The Longest Gap By 2 Weeks

It has now been 127 days since the last map update was released. This beats the longest map update gap (113 Days) in the past 6 years by 2 weeks. And the wait continues...

We are now on-schedule to receive [just] 3 map updates per year - if future gaps are about the same number of days.

I think it is time for Garmin to make an announcement about their map updates. It is my view that Garmin owes their customers (that have come to expect 4 map updates per year - one map update every ~90 days) an honest and transparent explanation about why the 2015.40 map update is being delayed. I cannot imagine what would prevent Garmin from making such an explanation. rolleyes

Well there certainly can be technical issues either on Garmin's end or Here. Remember the Europe maps were late as well. If Garmin are going to 3 map updates a year then I agree they should probably tell their users BUT I come from the days of one update a year, that I had to pay for, to basically a free update every 3/4 months so explanation or not, I'm a happy Garmin camper.

To be honest, I find this thread every 3 months more aggravating than waiting a few extra weeks for a map update that installs and works correctly when downloaded and installed. smile

Interesting

Interesting that in the last few years there has been at least one update for most years that was released later than expected. In 2010: 2011.10 was released on Apr 21st while 2012.10 wasn't released until May 18 2011. In 2012: 2013.10 was released on May 9th while 2014.10 wasn't released until June 12 2013. So the fact that 2015.40 was expected in February and isn't released by mid March maybe unexpected and the wait a little longer than normal, it's not that unusual.

Map version.

This is a little off topic, but since this whole thread is mostly silliness I guess it is OK to put it here.

I hadn't noticed this before, but in myMaps of my.garmin.com, my current installed map is listed as "City Navigator North America NT 2015.30 - Map+3D+HT+PA+P, July 14".

July 14? The map was released in Nov. So is July a reference to the Here map version?

Sigh

I give up waiting.

Maybe

Maybe they plan to make 2016.10 actually be released in 2016 by dragging out the release dates.

Would have been easier to release 2015.50, 2015.60 and 2015.70.

It depends. Are you using our method of month followed by day or the European notation of day followed by month?
