What are the odds that Garmin's outstanding software developers will just give-up and we'll never get another update?

Anybody have info on Europe release dates

As I understand it, the Europe maps were loaded to the servers on Feb 2 and I do not think have yet been released.

Does anyone have the dates when these maps were released? If so, maybe that would give us some info.

Still waiting.

Last I heard, our friends in Europe are still waiting for the map release. A Garmin employee indicated in their Garmin Express forum that the map would be released this week, but so far ... nothing.

I have never seen a historical list of the Europe map release dates. I know on some occasions it was released before NA and on other occasions after NA. I was thinking there was one instance a couple of years ago where the Europe release was skipped completely (they only got 3 that year). I am not certain about that last statement tho.

Opinion

The update will come out in the last quarter of 2015. Then the revision 2015.4 will fit the date.

Page 6

Isn't page 6 of these threads about the time the update shows up?

Ready

Backed up and ready for the update.

Map delay.

There is an interesting discussion going on over on the GPS Review forum regarding Garmin's agreement with Here (originally Navteq) running out in 2015 and what risk this may (or may not) have on Garmin's lifetime map subscriptions. Member sussamb raised the question of whether the delay of the 2015.40 map might be related to the pending expiration of this agreement between Garmin and Here.

I did some Googling for the Garmin/Navteq agreement to confirm that this information was correct. I found several articles circa 2007 that talk about the agreement through 2015 with the option to renew for another 4 years. I did not find any information about current talks between Garmin and Here.

This of course is all speculation. Only Garmin knows the reason for the map delay.

Commendation

@alandb
I commend you for checking for "Facts".

Way too many times people repeat things that they hear or read and believe them to be true.

An example: My son spouted off one day to his daughter that every time someone bought a VA "Don't Tread On Me" license plate, money went to the "Tea Party". Didn't sound quite right to me, so after they left I checked the VA DMV site and guess what? That tag is not a "Revenue Sharing" plate. In other words, the state of VA gets all the money. There are personalized plates that share money with organizations, but that's not one. Haven't confronted him with the evidence yet, but I will.

Way too much out there is just plain false (not just politics). Check and re-check the facts as alandb did. Don't repeat anything unless you have done your homework.

Kudos again to alandb.

This was not a political statement.

I am stepping down off the soapbox now.

116 days and still counting. This gap between map updates has already grown to almost a full month longer than the typical 90 days between updates. If Garmin keeps this up they will only have 3 updates per year, one every four months.

...is OK with me. There can't be that many changes. In fact, if we get maps every four months, we may get more updated info than we do currently.

A map update just once or twice a year is more than enough

Off to a totally different tangent.

FIB: focused Ion Beam.

One of the technologies that helped brought about the advances in IC technologies that give us iPhones and the like.

I think we were doing just fine then without being tethered to the mobile devices.

Perhaps this is the first move by Garmin toward reducing the number of updates per year. I was waiting for this one since I didn't update the last cycle or two.

This Week?

Hoping it's soon.

GE Update

Since Garmin seems unable to get GE software right it may be a good time to switch to TomTom. Their spring map update has been out for a month.

Yea..why bother to update that....
