Garmin Drive 52 Red Light Camera Alerts

This is my first post. Thinking of installing the POI-Factory Red Light Camera file on my new Garmin Drive 52 GPS device. This is my first Garmin GPS device and I am not sure if the Red Light file is worth installing. Will I get Red Light camera alerts using this POI file or do I have to pay Garmin to use their Red Light service?

The Red Light Camera POI file here at POI Factory is regularly updated and will work with your Drive GPS. We're here to help if needed. Once you're doing well with the file itself, you can add a custom audio alert and custom icon to your GPS. Adding the custom audio depends on whether you're using a PC or Mac to load custom POIs so let us know.

The RedLight Camera file (as well as Speed Cameras POI file) requires payment of a fee unless you're regularly participating in the site, known as "earning your windmill or stars," at which point you can download the two alert files at no cost. As a 10-year member here, you'll fit right in and earn your windmill soon.

So go ahead and install some custom POI files to your Drive and come back with any questions or comments. Your post in this thread has already started the process of earning your windmill.

This can save you $$ if used..

If you tend to drive to places you don't travel daily this is a great way to get a reminder of where the traffic/speed cameras are. I deliver fuel so always new places/intersections and it's great to get a reminder of an upcoming camera. Make sure you install the file along with sound and icons.

Thanks for the feedback. I use Garmin POI Loader program on Windows to add and update custom poi and have done that successfully with my new Garmin Drive 52. Where do I find the instructions for adding custom audio alerts for PC? I found the page with the sounds and pictures, but no info on how to install.

Side note: Using the format for creating custom poi on this site under the topic "Garmin CSV File Format" did not work for me. Those instructions showed the name info to be in quotes, but that resulted in garbage names on my Garmin Drive when loaded. When I looked at other custom poi files I had downloaded from this website, I noted that their location names were not in quotes, so I tried that approach with my own custom poi files and that worked great. Not sure how to alert the person responsible for the topic of my issue with that page's examples.

Note that the POI Factory has scads of ready-made custom audio alerts so you won't need to create your own unless you want to. Most important, your Drive GPS requires wav audio files. Do not try to install any mp3 files. POI Loader will need to be run in Manual mode for you to get to the page allowing the setting of an alert distance and if you have multiple POI files loaded you can choose which files to have custom audio alerts and each can have its own alert distance. You will find that the Redlight camera and Speed camera files will already have an alert enabled but will just be a little "ding" by default allowing you to substitute a more personal audio file. You can alter the default alert distance if you want but I and I believe most users here are happy with the default settings.
