House Numbers On Open Street Maps

I have been using Open Street Maps (OSM) lately and in some areas it shows the actual house/building number on a diagram of the house.

Standard and CyclOSM OSM maps have that. What other maps have that?

Interesting software on some Dodge products

There recently was a nearby theft of a late model Dodge Hellcat. It came out that the 700+ HP Hellcat and maybe some Challengers since 2021 may have a rather innovative security system that has won some design engineering awards. It is called the Enhanced Security Mode and replaces the standard Valet Mode.

This week we're recognizing Jim1348, BobHy, and ruggb.

Over the last month, they shared their experiences using Open Street Map (OSM) on Garmin devices. I'm happy to see projects like OSM adding new life and capabilities to electronic devices that might otherwise end up as "e-waste" in a landfill.

insurance coverage due to the e-bike and e-scooter hazard

I just reviewed the insurance coverage for my Subaru Forester and had a discussion with the insurance agent. The question was whether I have enough of the needed coverage for an accident with an e-bike or scooter. None of these people have insurance.

In the last six months I have watched all these situations on the road, again and again:

still hopeful

The last 5 days I've encountered various random acts of people being nice.

That makes me hopeful society will always go on despite struggles and disagreements.

Some of the things were quite ordinary, Shop Rite and Costco.

Another was interesting.

interesting to see employer grow

Our co. has grown to 6X the revenue it had when I started....it's a co where it takes a lot of employees to generate revenue, maybe 15,000 for 4 bil.

What's interesting are two things.

One, how much each individual knows--those are the small co. roots. We have people with 50, 40, 30, 20 year tenures.

But, as medium co. standards are deployed, the Dave factor kicks in.

Happy Independence Day USA !

Hope everyone has a safe holiday.

Wait, what?!?... Boston's Sumner Tunnel

If you thought Philly's I-95 bridge collapse was bad (okay, they patched that one relatively quickly), check out this planned two-month shutdown of Boston's Sumner Tunnel, the main artery between downtown Boston and Logan Airport:

Garmin Vs. Google Vs. Open Street Maps (OSM)

I was playing around with online maps today. I was of the opinion that Google Maps was usually first with the newest street in my area. A few minutes ago I compared Garmin vs. Google vs. Open Street Maps. To my surprise, Open Street Maps had streets in a new development that neither Google nor Garmin had!

Inaccurate POIs

I'm just curious as to how some of these POI files are created. For example a truck stop waypoint will be marked at the major downtown intersection while the actual truck stop is several miles away on the Interstate. Does the person making them just see the location and drop a pin at the center of the nearest locale?

Didn't know indoor pools are closed if lightning possible

Just learned it last week and this week, that the YMCAs closed their pools if thunder is heard.

We have Y a which is 1.5 miles from home. They have family swim 2-4 hours per week, 1 or 2 times per week.

We have Y b which is 10.5 miles from home. They have family swim daily.

So this year, we've had to drive to the 10.5 mile one so my kid could have access to family swim.
