Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – April 2014

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Password length limits?

I joined last week because POI Factory kept showing up in search results. There's a lot of info here, and I appreciate the efforts of all involved.

Following the usual registration process, I waited for the initial email, followed the one-time login link, used 1Password to change my password, and thought everything was OK.

Squirrely Voice

What, if anything was this voice from? It sucks.

That extra 500 miles/stop will cost you $$$ on your insurance (GPS Tracking)?

http://www.infowars.com/auto-insurance-co-tracks-drivers-by-...

Not only will this insurance Co. be able "to locate policyholders by GPS and charge them insurance rates per mile driven... and can even record the route driven by the policyholder."

I can think of a host of associations to this development but I would hate to spoil the fun & indignation for others.

To Start From Scratch

I'd like to start from scratch here and just focus on what I want to do and maybe you experienced peoples can help me get myself set up in a good way.

I want to be able to do the normal highway and city routing.
I want to know where the public lands are including forest service, BLM and state lands (so that I can camp there for free).

This week we are recognizing Juggernaut for his help in the Windows 7 discussion thread. I love seeing people from the community jump in to help one another and it’s great when multiple members indicate they've benefited from a suggestion.

Thanks, Juggernaut!

Camera changes this week in New York

I am getting sick of seeing New York in the weekly RLC camera updates. This state is over the top. The SAFE Act was a deal breaker. The constant additions of RLC and now speed cameras has me seriously thinking about voting with my feet out of this tax-laden nanny state.

Near Disaster Caught On Johnson County, IA, Squad Car Camera

Here is a very close call on Interstate 80 in Iowa:

Also a good reason for a Dash Cam.

Garmin Internal Memory Size

I can't find the internal memory size for the Garmin 2797, does anyone know the internal memory size for the 2797? Hopefully it is 8gb.

Traffic Light Assistance

This is an intresting idea.. check out the link about this system..

http://www.flixxy.com/audi-traffic-light-assistance.htm

The system counts down to the next green light if you’re already stopped at a red light. It works by connecting your car via Wi-Fi with the central traffic control computer.

heads up

Maybe some of you know about this site already, but I just happened to run across it and thought I would post it. It will convert kml and gpx files either way. I loaded a track from my 2597 into MapSource and saved it as a gpx file then tried it on the site. I double clicked the resulting file and it loaded into Google Earth with no problem. I have not tried it the other way.

Amazing GPS: I once was lost but now am found.

DelORME topo 8

When I tried opening some poi.cvs files I have been using for my Delorme Topo 8 for the last three years and they suddenly no longer even show up in the folder. In explorer I found files but with an X in their upper left corner. What the? Downloaded new files and they did not show up either. Any clues? Thanks.
