Garmin talk

I've downloaded some of the alternative vehicle icons from the garmin site but they don't have anything that represents a person (if I am in pedestrian mode). Does anybody know of a site where one can get additional "vehicles"?

How much memory space is available for custom POI on the Garmin c340? It doesn't seem to be overly advertised anywhere, so it must be a small amount and hidden in the fine print!

Garmin has a few new vehicles out - look here. There's an RV that looks like a 1970's/80's era Winnebago, off-roading Jeep, and race car & race truck.

So I used the Webupdater to install V3.80 software into my 660. After the install, I got the usual "install more software" screen (the one where you can install new vehicle icons, voices etc).

Went to Oklahoma to ride ATV's this weekend and noticed something strange on my 660. This was my first "real test" of the unit.

Hey guys, new member here! I was just wondering, is the Nuvi impact resistant? I'm thinking about taking it camping and hiking for fun. I'm just afraid that it'll break when I drop it. Worse, I'm too afraid to get it wet when I go fishing. Anyone have any experiences dropping their Nuvi or getting it wet?

Hello I am new to the custom POI world but not GPS world. I have installed different POI on my C550 using manual mode some with distance and some with out distance alerts. I noticed that the icons (yes the .bmp file is the same) do not show and alerts do not show unless I set that as a destenation. I would like to know when I am getting close to a Weigh station or rest areas before I get there.

I have the female American voice on mine. How do I change the voice to something else?

I was one of the many that recently purchased the Costco deal on the 660. Just got it in the mail today. I went to put the disc into my computer and nothing happens. The Owner's Manual popped up...but no usable interface software. How do i interact with this thing on my computer if I don't have software?

I just got my 350. I had a Mio 310 but replaced it with the Nuvi. While the Mio had its own set of routing quirks, I am very puzzled by something the Nuvi is doing. While playing with the unit last night - in my living room, not the car - I plugged in the address of my mom’s house in Sacramento, which is about a five hour drive from where I am. The route the 350 gave me, both on fastest or shortest, was extremely convoluted.

I selected custom pois under favorites, then selected all categories (the first option). Right when I selected it, the nuvi 350 shut off on me. To make sure this was not just a one time thing, I did a few times and the system shutoff everytime.

Any thoughts?

Yesterday to my surprise and amusement, Avis gave me a StreetPilot C550 with my rental. There version is being marketed as Where 2.

I was very HAPPY as I was about to plug in my own GPS a StreetPilot i5.

My questions are:
1. Has anyone trying loading Red Light POIs onto the Avis GPS?

Has anyone purchased a "Suction Cup Mount with 12-Volt Adapter for Nuvi 660" kit by Garmin? It has Garmin part number (010-10935-02), but it's not listed at Garmin site. I found it on several sites including Amazon showing it in a Garmin packaging.

Drove up to Kuantan , Fraser's Hill last weekend (8 Jun ~ 14 Jun) fr Singapore.

A couple users have told me about a strange problem they had with POI Loader 2.4.1 and Windows Vista. (edit: The same issue was later reported by a different user with XP Pro.)

After trying to start the program using:

Start > All Programs > Garmin > POI Loader

When I went to move my C330 windshield mount large chunks of it stuck to the windshield. Garmin is sending me a new mount, but had no suggestions on removing the rubber from the windshield. Anyone out there have any?

I have a Nuvi 680. I updated the Red Light Camera database using the POI Loader. Do I have to unload the previous Red Light Camera file I loaded, or does the new one replace the old one? I'd hate to have redundancy in there!

I have an older Street Pilot III. Is there a way to get the POI files found on this WEB site to work with that model GPS?
