Loading maps to Nuvi 350 internal memory with MapSource

I just tried MapSource for the first time. I loaded just the UK and Ireland maps onto the Nuvi 350 SD card and all is well. But I can't get them onto the internal memory. The file size is only 134MB so I don't believe that's an issue. I get an error message that says "There is a problem communicating with the Garmin device." Now this is strange since I just loaded the maps onto the 2GB SD card. I think maybe it has to do with unlocking maps. I somehow unlocked both the Europe NT maps from the DVD and also the North America maps which are resident in the Nuvi. Anyhow, when I ask MapSource for the list of maps unlocked it shows two: the DVD Europe map and the resident North America maps. The correct unlock code for the resident North America maps is listed, but the "region" shows "unknown." Maybe I confused things by unlocking the North America maps when that wasn't necessary or was it? Any help would be appreciated.

.

Usually when MapSource says that it can't comminicater with the device, this is from a firmware/MapSource version issue.

Be sure that your firmware is update to the most recent version. Which is currently 4.6.

nuvi 350 firmware download

Also, be sure that your MapSource is updated to 6.12.4. Don't use the update feature within MapSource.

Download it directly.

MapSource update download

Updated MapSource to 6.12.4 and it works now!

I updated to MapSource 6.12.4 and I am now able to load maps to the internal Nuvi 350 memory. I already had v4.6 firmware installed. Thanks

Installing

I'm trying to get a Mexico Map (from www.mexicomaps.com) and it says I need mapsource software to install. Do you have all of your Europe maps installed only on the SD disk, with the NUVI 350 automatically taking data from the disk?

I don't have mapsource.. Guess there's no way to get around buying it? What is the best one to buy, keeping in mind that I already have the North America maps pre-loaded.

Thanks,
Hank

Mapsource for free.

You can get a copy of the Mapsource software (and a rudimentary World Map), as follows:-

Download and Install the "Training Center for Windows" software, from the Garmin website.

Update the version of Mapsource that it ships with, from HERE

The software is intended to manage one of the 'wearable' gps devices.
