How to update Garmin Map

This should be easy but can't seem to find exactly how to do this. I see Garmin sells updates on web via SD cards.

So if I buy one of those for my c530, do I put it in the slot and it will auto update the internal memory or do I now need to keep the sd card in to use the new maps version?

The memory is on the card

so you need to keep it in.

Map updates via SD card? Are you sure? For City Navigator North America? I don't think so. The only SD cards that Garmin sells, that I've ever seen, are for the initial purchase of their mapping products not for update of pre-installed maps.

It would be dumb to make me keep sd card in to have latest maps. Why can't I just update the internal?

Guess I will email garmin and ask them.

I know garmin sells the sd card for maps of europe. I almost purchased one but had to wait...

The map updates that Garmin sells are on a CD. You would run this CD on your computer and the update would be installed onto your GPSr.

The SD card maps that Garmin sells are for additional map regions or products (Topo, BlueChart) that didn't originally come installed on your unit.

These are two completely different things and function completely differently.

I just got of the phone with Garmin after 25 Minute hold:(

She said the newest map release will be out soon and it will sell at BestBuy for $69. This DVD only will also come with software to download the new map updates to the internal memory of the garmin using USB per her comments.

The one at BB will be cheaper than Garmins site:).

She said sign up for the update emails and they will send email when it's available.

New v. 2008 Maps Also Available at Walmart

I spoke with Garmin this afternoon. She said the newest map release will be available at BestBuy and Walmart for $70. The last part of July, according to her.

No, you can't. They will be unlocked to a single unit.
