Selecting Maps in "Map Info" Screen

What does the "Map Info" screen do on the Nuvi 350? I have two sets of maps installed in internal memory: the resident North America maps and UK/Ireland so I have two check boxes. It doesn't seem to matter if I un-check these. Both sets are still loaded at start-up and available for use. I thought you could decide which maps you want to load from several that are in memory. What am I missing?

That's how it works.

When you de-select the detailed map, you'll probably still see something of the area in question, because of the basemap. However, if you zoom in, you'll notice that none of the smaller roads are present any more.

Your're right!

Is it only for faster map loading? I measured it to be about twice as fast when the Europe maps are deselected.

I can believe it affects boot-up time

Possibly the other time you would switch maps on and off, is if you have two totally different 'types' of map for a certain area. For example, a 'TOPO' map and a road map.
